Restaurant Inspections for Early April

boca-indian-grill
The biggest news for West Boca in this week’s report is the licensing inspection for Boca Indian Grill, completed with only two minor violations. The licensing inspection usually signals that a place is about to open. We were in Mission Bay Plaza after the 4/6 inspection and it did not seem to be open yet but we will be checking on it soon.
Update – Sunday afternoon still not open.
The data also shows a perfect licensing inspection on Federal Highway for “New York Grilled Cheese.” We were in that plaza on Friday and saw it but didn’t think to go in.

The best routine inspection for a restaurant in West Boca was for Cilluffo’s on SW 18th by Howard’s Market. They had only one minor violation.
Wendy’s on Glades in Boca Lyons Plaza had two minor violations.
Brickyard Microbrewery on Palmetto Park Road did well with 3 minor violations.

Turning to the not-so-good news:

The worst inspection this week goes to 3 G’s Deli in Delray Beach. They had 12 violations with 5 marked high priority including hand washing and food temperature issues leading to a stop sale on a couple items:

  • Employee cracked raw shell eggs and then handled ready-to-eat food and/or clean equipment or utensils without washing hands.
  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food. Inspector discussed importance of proper personal hygiene, handwashing and glove use. Employee washed hands properly and put on new gloves.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cooked/heated yesterday/on a previous day not cooled from 135 degrees Fahrenheit to 41 degrees Fahrenheit within a total of 6 hours. Food has been cooling overnight. See stop sale. Stuffed cabbages 69°-76° in walk-in cooler. Cooked corned beef 48°-53° in reach-in cooler at front counter. Both items cooling overnight.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food held using time as a public health control not discarded at the end of the 4-hour/6-hour period. Employee indicated that creamers and butters return to refrigeration after breakfast shift. Inspector discussed proper use of Time as a Public Health Control. **Corrective Action Taken**
  • Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. Stuffed cabbages 69°-76° in walk-in cooler. Cooked corned beef 48°-53° in reach-in cooler at front counter. Both items cooling overnight. Person in Charge discarded foods.

Park Ave BBQ (aka PA BBQ) on Dixie just south of Glades had 12 violations including 2 marked high priority. The worst of it was some minor food temperature issues and small flying insects in outdoor storage. The next-day follow-up was nearly perfect. Their inspection in August was worse, with four high priority including insects in the kitchen and rodent droppings in a storage area.
Other notables in this week’s report include:

  • Maggiano’s near Town Center (11 violations, 2 high priority)
  • Blue Agave on 441 in Parkland (9, 1)
  • Ruven’s in Delray (8, 0)
  • Ben’s Kosher Deli on 441 at Clint Moore (7, 2)
  • Chili’s on St. Andrews (6, 2)
  • Lucille’s BBQ in Woodfield Plaza (5, 2)
  • Chez Marie in Polo Club Shoppes (5, 3)
