Judge Candidate Samantha Schosberg Feuer

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting with Samantha Schosberg Feuer (pronounced like “fewer”). She is a candidate for Circuit Court Judge for the 15th Judicial Circuit. That is, for Palm Beach County.

Mrs. Schosberg Feuer’s legal career has mainly consisted of working as a prosecutor and for the Florida Attorney General in “consumer protection.” Her campaign website is named Samantha For Judge. She also has a long list of “community involvement” such as being past president of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers. She is certainly well qualified for the position.
There are certain things I look for in a judge. One critical piece is courtroom experience. There are some lawyers who run for judge after spending their careers mostly outside courtrooms. That worries those of us who do spend time in court. Schosberg Feuer clearly has substantial trial experience, so she ticks off that box favorably.
She also makes a good impression in person – sharp and clearly knows what she’s doing. She has a lot of energy, and I worry a little that she will try to control the courtroom too much. That can make it hard for the attorneys to do their jobs.
I was mostly impressed with her. She’s clearly on the ball when it comes to the harsh ethics rules that come into play when you run for judge. Something I find helpful with trial lawyers is to ask questions that give them an opportunity to tell stories. A lawyer who’s had a lot of trials will have a lot of stories to tell. And good trial lawyers are also good story tellers. It goes with the job. I did not find her stories compelling. But that’s important in a lawyer, not in a judge.
Here’s a video of the press conference when she announced her run:

We are not making any endorsement decision yet. We are waiting to hear from other candidates, both in judge races and others. So far we will be meeting with one other candidate from the other contested Circuit Court race. Hopefully others will contact us and we will be able to provide more information to our readers.

Facebook Ads and Missing Zip Codes

Update: See bottom of this article.

One effective technique for Facebook advertising is to target your ads by zip code. This helps to really narrow your audience to the groups you want to reach, and avoid wasting money on ads going to groups who are too far from your geographic market. If you’d like to learn more about using Facebook ads effecitively, the kevin david facebook ads ninja masterclass might be something you’d want to sign up for.
We’ve been using zip codes for ad targeting on Facebook for a while now. Recently we noticed an odd problem – certain zip codes are difficult or impossible to add to an ad campaign. We’ve had the same problem on the main interface and in Power Editor.
There are no matches found for zip code 33433, which is home to over 40,000 people in the wealthy community of Boca Raton, Florida. Our website aims to cover five zip codes in western Boca Raton. And, even if we add the word “Boca” in our search, it still doesn’t come up.
Nothing we’ve tried brings up this zip code now. We were able to add it in past ads and may be able to work around the problem using those past campaigns. But we suspect others are encountering similar problems with zip code targeting in Facebook ads.
We have had similar but less difficult problems with other zip codes. Zip code 33498 is another part of West Boca. It doesn’t show up if we only enter 33498 in the search box. On the other hand, if we add “Boca” to our search, it does come up now. A week ago it would not come up at all.
Have you had problems targeting your Facebook ads to certain zip codes? It might be worth speaking to a digital marketing agency los angeles or somewhere thats local to you to help get you on the right track again. It would also be great if you can let us know in the comments so we can all learn from eachothers mistakes together!
To learn more about the topic in general, see Search Engine Watch’s article about ad targeting on Facebook.
Update
In the comments below a reader said that he was able to find the 33433 zip code, and it did indeed start working for us. However, now we can’t get the 33431 zip code.
Zip code 33431 is a high-income zip code with roughly 18,000 people and includes the main campus of Florida Atlantic University (FAU).

Inside the Publix Prostitution Sting

Update: We now have video from the Publix prostitution sting.

West Boca News has obtained the probable cause affidavit from one of the recent arrests in the PBSO prostitution sting at the Sandalfoot Publix. Here’s a section of that affidavit, with names and other identifying information blocked out for both the defendant and the deputies.
prostitution-sting-affFirst of all we can see that this operation was conducted at “various locations throughout Palm Beach County,” with locations based on “recent citizen’s complaints.” The address indicated is 22973 South State Road 7, which is indeed the address for the Publix at West Boca Plaza at the corner of Sandalfoot and State Road 7 (US-441).

A deputy sheriff was a decoy, “posing as a prostitute” at that address. As the police describe it, this particular defendant approached her in a van, and during a conversation offered to pay $30 for sex. At that point “arrest teams responded from a concealed location,” stopped the vehicle and arrested the defendant.
The affidavit also indicates that they have both audio and video of the incident, which we will be requesting from PBSO.
