8 Arrests: Battery, DUI & More

battery-dui-april-a
Not counting the Publix prostitution sting from this past week, we have nine arrests to report. The top three in the image above were arrested for battery, and the bottom three were arrested for DUI.
Deputies booked Mario Ribaudo (58, top left) early Sunday morning on charges of battery and aggravated battery. He was released early Monday afternoon (about an hour before we wrote this). His reported address is in Boca Chase, in a nice house with a lake view. While on first look the name might appear Latino, we think he’s Sicilian.
Scott Whitman (24, top center) was arrested late Sunday night for battery. He was released this morning. His reported address is in the Timbers of Boca. If we’re not mistaken he works for the same telemarketing firm as another recent arrestee. A couple hours after he was booked, deputies also booked his girlfriend for DUI (bottom right of the image – and see below).
Kathryn Wilson (44, top right) was arrested on Tuesday the 22nd for battery, and released early the next morning. County court records show numerous cases for her dating back to 2005. In 2013 she did a little jail time and had some stiff fines for another battery case. Her reported address is in the Sandalfoot trailers not far from Winikoff and Tradewind.
Boynton Beach police arrested Peter Larson (29, bottom left) for DUI on Saturday. Larson works in construction. His reported address is in Strathmore near the intersection of St. Andrews and Potomac. The case does not show up in the court database yet, and we see no other criminal history for him, other than some traffic tickets.
Mike Minihane (27, bottom center) was booked for DUI early Sunday morning, and has not been released yet. His reported address is a condo in Boca Del Mar between Powerline and Military Trail. He has a felony drug case pending from a February arrest. Back in 2013 he had a careless driving charge resolved with “adjudication withheld,” and he’s had several other cases, mostly traffic, dating back to 2006.

Ian Thompson (45, above) was booked early on Thursday the 24th for a child abuse charge, and released the afternoon of the same day. His reported address is near the Glades Branch Library.
We see no prior criminal history for him.

West Boca Doctor Writes Book

weinstock-cover
West Boca eye surgeon Frank J. Weinstock released a new book this year, I’ve Been Thinking: And It Might Save Your Life (And Vision). Published by Trimark Press in Deerfield Beach, two things stand out about the book.
First, the cover (top of this article) is very catchy. It really grabbed our attention and made it clear there was going to be something about eyes. Second, the font size is significantly larger than we usually see in a paperback. Below for comparison, you can see the text from Weinstock’s book on the right next to the next book we’re reading (Age of Context by Robert Scoble and Shel Israel) and you can see the Weinstock’s text is much larger. Oddly there is no mention of this font choice anywhere in the book or even in the pages about the book on Amazon and Trimark.

The book is essentially a collection of essays written by Dr. Weinstock, some or all of which may have appeared as columns in Boca News or some other publication. In some ways it looks like the audience was an afterthought. Some essays are written to doctors, others to patients, and still others to people interested in healthcare policy.
The first section is all over the map in covering various aspects of medicine and health care. The second and third sections focus more on the eyes and ophthalmology and were more appealing to this reader.
weinstock-bio-picA medical doctor and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Frank Weinstock lives in West Boca and has family here as well. He has been a professor of ophthalmology at FAU, University of Miami and elsewhere. He previously practiced medicine in Canton, Ohio.

Road Block for Glades Gas Leak: Photos

*Please note that for most pictures in this article, you can click and see a larger version, especially the panorama shots.*
glades-441-block-2
Glades Road was blocked this morning from 441 to as far as 95th Street (the street for the Glades Library and JCC complex). This was the result of a gas leak. By the time we arrived it was still blocked between the eastern Shadowood entrance and 441.

They even had a PBSO vehicle on the west side of 441 keeping things clear.

After speaking with emergency workers on scene, we learned that the gas leak was at or near the middle entrance on Glades to the Westwinds of Boca plaza (the one with Home Depot and Publix). While there were early reports that the entire plaza was being evacuated (and possibly Shadowood Plaza as well), it appears that the problem was well contained between the Animal Hospital and the ABC Wine & Spirits on one side and Glades Road on the other.

Communication between agencies may have been imperfect. After we got notice from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue that the leak had been closed and the area was safe, this deputy was still putting up tape blocking the area off.

The scene was loaded with emergency workers. Including firefighters, paramedics, deputies and FPL workers, we saw at least 50 of them and maybe as many as 100. It was already warm out and the fire rescue workers had clearly been working hard.

Happily it appears that the paramedics did not have any patients and they used the incident as an opportunity for training and prep for future incidents.

It was an impressive scene and we took quite a few pictures. Below are some panorama shots that attempt to capture the scene:

7 Johns Busted in Publix Prostitution Sting

Update: We have more details on the PBSO Publix prostitution sting.
Update 2: We have video from the Publix prostitution sting.
prostitution
Seven West Boca men were arrested Friday in a prostitution sting set up by the deputies near the Sandalfoot Publix.
On the upper left, Marc Decembre (40) of the Hamptons of Boca was booked early afternoon and remains in custody. The only history we see for him in the county are a few traffic cases. Of the seven, his nookie run was the longest.
Top center is Ruben Colon (31) of the Timberwalk townhomes in Loggers Run. He also remains in custody. The blotter indicates this is charged as a second offense, though we don’t see the first in either Palm Beach or Broward court records. We do see two felony arrests from 2001/2002, one for burglary and another for leaving the scene of an injury accident (we didn’t realize that was a felony). He’s also had a few traffic cases.
Top right is Jeffrey Glickman (29) of Sandalfoot Cove, who was released shortly after midnight. He was previously arrested in 2010, originally charged with felony aggravated assault along with prowling/loitering. That was reduced to a lesser charge and then dropped by the prosecution. His charge is also listed in the blotter as a second offense, but again we do not see any first offense.
Bottom left is Michael Fox (21) of Timbers of Boca, released early this morning. We mentioned Mr. Fox in a crime story in March, and detailed his significant arrest history there.
Robert Sturley (2nd from bottom left, 63) remains in custody at this writing. His reported address is just west of 441 near that Sandalfoot Publix. We see no previous arrest history for Mr. Sturley.
Mark Whalen (2nd from bottom right, 50) was released shortly before Mr. Fox. His reported address is in Boca Winds. He’s had a couple of traffic cases but we see nothing else in his history. Oddly yesterday’s arrest does not show up in court records yet.
On the bottom, far right, is Alexandre Guimaraes (50), also from the Timberwalk townhomes. We see a few traffic cases for him and nothing else. He was released a minute after Mr. Whalen.
Our source tells us that PBSO spent some time setting this sting up. We have requested a probable cause affidavit and will update the story when we find out more.
Update: See our new article on the probable cause affidavit in the Publix prostitution sting.
In related news, we hear Publix is considering a new motto: “Publix: Where shopping is a pleasure!”
Of course all arrestees are innocent at this stage.
