Hobby Lobby: Hiring in Mid-August?

Some of our readers inquired about when the new West Boca Hobby Lobby would start hiring. We asked and they answered:

It’s good to hear that there’s already interest in employment at the Boca Raton Hobby Lobby! I don’t have exact dates to give you for hiring yet.
Typically, six weeks before the store’s projected opening, Hobby Lobby will hold a multi-day hiring event in Boca Raton inviting all interested applicants to apply in person during the designated time.
This hiring event will be advertised in the Sunday newspaper, through email and on our website. When the hiring event is over, no more applications will be accepted until after the store’s grand opening. Hobby Lobby does not accept applications online for these positions.

Since they’re projecting an open date toward the end of September, six weeks earlier would be mid-August. They also offered to keep us “in the loop” for when hiring dates are announced.

West Boca Hobby Lobby: End of September

Hobby Lobby Stores announced that their new 52,000 square foot West Boca store will open at the end of September. This is earlier than we had previously heard that it would open mid-Fall. Construction and renovations have begun on the former Bealls in West Boca Square (aka the Target plaza).

Hobby Lobby’s thirtieth location in Florida will bring about 35 – 50 jobs to the community paying $15 per hour for full time and $10 per hour for part-time associates.

“We offer a wide variety of craft and home decor products including exclusive Hobby Lobby brands. First-time shoppers will be pleasantly surprised at the large store size and the exceptional service provided by our trained associates,” stated John Schumacher, Assistant Vice President of Advertising.
Hobby Lobby has over 600 stores across the nation that average 55,000 square feet in size and offers more than 70,000 crafting and home decor products in its stores. Departments include floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sunday.
We previously wrote in some depth about Hobby Lobby and how it might affect the Michael’s in Somerset Shoppes.

West Boca Walmart Hiring Center Open

We’ve been advised that has opened a temporary hiring center at 8903 Glades Road, #A-14 in the Somerset Shopping Center. It’s a roughly 2600 square foot space north of the Michael’s. The best entrances are probably the two on Lyons Road.

Walmart will hire around three hundred associates to work at the new West Boca Walmart slated to open late this summer in Boca Raton.
Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 to 5. Interested applicants may also apply online at Careers.Walmart.com.
Through Walmart’s Veterans Welcome Home Commitment, the company will offer a job to any qualified veteran who has been honorably discharged within the past 12 months.* Interested veterans may find out more at WalmartCareersWithaMission.com.
According to store manager David Bonutti, the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates. “We are excited to return to this area of Boca Raton, bring approximately 300 jobs to the community and expand our offerings to better serve our customers,” said Bonutti.
Walmart provides a benefits program to eligible full- and part-time associatesm including health-care coverage, matching 401(k) contributions, discounts, company stock purchase program and life insurance, along with performance incentives.
Most associates will start in August to prepare the store for its grand opening in late summer.

*Veterans must be within 12 months of active duty and meet Walmart’s standard hiring criteria.

Projects Making Progress: Walmart, Walgreens and Westwinds

shadowood-walgreens
We’re seeing a lot of progress being made on projects going on in West Boca. For details on these and others see our previous post, What’s Going On At …?
Above you can see that they’ve started erecting the new Walgreens outbuilding in Shadowood. This photo was taken from the sidewalk on Glades Road, and the existing Walgreens is in the background at far left.

Across the street they’re doing a lot of work on the northwest corner of Westwinds of Boca (aka the Home Depot plaza) close to the Glades & 441 intersection. You can see some of the work in our cheesy 33-second video below.

Below is a panorama shot of the scene with Home Depot behind the camera and 441 in the background. In the distance the Glades/441 intersection is to the right and the entrance by the AT&T store and Chipotle is to the left.

Here’s another shot of that looking more towards the north and Shadowood:

And here’s our last shot, taken from over by the AT&T and Chipotle entrance, looking north. It appears they’re preserving some of the lake that was there before.

Finally they’re getting more done on the Walmart at Palmetto Park & 441. The door is on the front of the store close to Palmetto.

Here’s a panorama shot looking from the Palmetto entrance. We’ve tried other angles but it’s hard to get a good picture from any other spot.

And we also noticed they’re starting some kind of landscaping work. We saw this around the border of the property, outside the fence:

Closing: Coldwater Creek in Promenade

coldwater-closing
The Coldwater Creek store in Promenade is having a store closing sale with signs proclaiming big price reductions.
coldwater-inside
The chain is in bankruptcy and having some problems getting through the process, as reported a few days ago by the Wall Street Journal.
Promenade is located on the southwest corner of Lyons and Wiles.

We believe the Coldwater Creek store in Town Center has already closed.
