West Boca News: We're Growing

We’ve gone from nothing to something. West Boca News began in early 2012 and grew slowly until about a year ago. In September of 2013 we had around 650 “Likes” on Facebook. Less than 3000 people visited the website that month.

Through a combination of luck, work, focus, listening, and most of all thanks to our readers, we’ve grown steadily and dramatically.

Today we are approaching 8500 Likes. Last month over 87,000 visitors looked at nearly 200,000 pages.

On Facebook we are now reaching over 100,000 people a week and have over 20,000 “engaged” users. Engagement refers to people who click on links or photos, and like, share or comment on posts. Sixty percent of our website traffic comes from Facebook.

We also surpassed 1 million total page views today.

Those numbers are from Facebook and JetPack Site Stats. Google Analytics shows similar growth with over 72,000 “Users” (also known as unique visitors), 132,000 sessions and 190,000 page views in August. Numbers aren’t everything. We also hear from people a lot, mostly through Facebook.
We thank our readers for following us, reading our stories, sending us tips and photos, sharing us with their friends, and for all the kind words we hear. We’ll keep working on growing and delivering relevant news.
We’re still working on the “making money” part of the business. That will take longer. Following the movie Field of Dreams – If we build it bigger, the advertisers will come. For now we thank our one banner advertiser, International Jewelers Exchange, and our one real estate sponsor, Bonnie’s Boca Homes (and her husband Alan), for believing in us and giving us a chance.
