Shooting at Shadowood – Scene: Videos

This morning we were alerted to a shooting with one person dead in Shadowood Square, at the European Auto Service Center at 9787 Glades Road.

SHOOTING
9787 Glades Rd
PBCFR & PBSO onscene of a subject that was shot in the head at a business, unknown circumstances or suspect information, Advising confirmed “Signal-7” dead at scene, Crime Scene units enroute

It is on the east end of the plaza by the traffic light and close to Einstein Bagel.

As you can see in the video below (on the right side in the background), paramedics attempted to enter the premises but were turned away. The victim had already passed away.

It appears this was a suicide rather than a violent crime. Police secured only the area inside the building, even allowing a pedestrian to walk through the parking lot. An anonymous source also confirmed this was a suicide.
Police and others were talking to one young man, wearing a Batman t-shirt, who may have witnessed the shooting or found the body.

A gentleman (in the grey shirt and red shorts) approached us and identified himself as the owner. He did not offer any comment.

He then went to the witness and, along with first responders, offered comfort.

First responders from PBSO and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue remained on scene for a substantial amount of time.

Before we left the scene we shot one final video:

Now Open: Lime Fresh in Shadowood.

There are two new restaurants up and running in West Boca. First up, as we reported last year the new Lime Fresh Mexican Grill has finally opened in Shadowood, next to Sybarite Pig. Back in 2012 we reviewed the Lime Fresh in Promenade and we liked it.
We like the new one too. We’ll start with the interior and more importantly, the exterior. They have a large outdoor seating area that is covered and should be particularly nice once the heat of summer has passed.

Inside it has a similar color scheme and seating as the one in Promenade.

A bit like Tijuana Flats in Mission Bay, there is a sauce bar but it’s noticeably different. There are fewer choices but it’s not just sauces. We especially like the bean thing, and the fresh cilantro is another nice option. Warning: The habanero sauce is very hot.

We only tried a couple dishes. First up was the steak and cheese taco.

Next we tried the steak “Nudie Burrito”, which is basically the inside of a burrito without the tortilla, similar to the Norrito Bowl at Tijuana Flats.

Overall we like Lime Fresh. You might get more food for your money at Tijuana Flats. But you get enough at Lime Fresh. Quantity isn’t everything and we like the quality of the meat at Lime Fresh just a little better. That could be a matter of taste. Chipotle is also nearby and has its fans as well.
Lime Fresh prides themselves on getting the food out fast and they delivered on that. The service is very quick. Overall West Boca is lucky to have three good Mexican options at Glades and 441.

New Stores & Restaurants on Glades Road

saks-off-5th-west-boca
We’ve noticed progress on new stores and restaurants that are open or will be opening soon. Above you can see that the Saks Off 5th in Somerset Shoppes is looking closer to ready. We’re guessing it will open in a couple months.

In the same plaza, near Original Pancake House, it looks like the Orange Theory fitness center is up and running.

We see some progress on the Armadillo Cafe, both outside (above) and inside (below). This place has a lot of buzz as well as interest from customers of the old location in Davie. We’re told to expect a soft opening soon, sometime near Valentine’s Day.

On the outside the new Walgreens building in Shadowood looks close to ready, but inside there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Also in Shadowood, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill is definitely coming. We don’t see any progress inside the space yet but there’s a sign outside saying they’re coming:

It’s next to Sybarite Pig, and you can see where the outdoor seating will be on the right side of the picture below.

On the south side of Glades at 441, the new building everyone’s asking about looks great on the outside.

Again we don’t see much done on the inside so don’t expect anything to open for at least a month and maybe 2-3 months. We’re also pleased that there’s a lot of parking.

Also in Westwinds we just learned that a new Mathnasium franchise will open to serve West Boca. There used to be one in the Boca Lyons plaza but that closed a couple years ago but still operates just east of Town Center near the Hooters. A new franchisee is giving it a shot and we’ll cover that in more detail soon.

They should open their doors this coming week.

Speaking of Boca Lyons Plaza, it appears they’ll finally replace the old Ethan Allen with a 4th Generation Organic Market & Cafe.

In the same plaza we also see a new “Clouds of Vapor” electronic cigarette shop, and Ace’s Barber Shop has opened between that and Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza.

four-seasons-1
The Four Seasons restaurant is up and running and we see customers giving it a try. We’ll get there soon. Next door in the photo above the lit-up store front is Creative Heart Dance Studio with a lot of dance classes for kids. They’re using this space as well as an area upstairs next to the FitRX gym.

New Walgreens Photos

West Boca photographer Johnnie Butters sent us these photos of the new Walgreens set to open soon in Shadowood Plaza on the north side of Glades just east of 441. Above is the front, facing Glades.
Next is the east side of the building, showing where the drive-thru lane will be:

And last is the west side of the building, showing the current Walgreens in the background:

Butters thinks it looks ready to open, but we don’t know any official open date yet. We’ll see if we can find out and keep our readers informed.

Update on Regal Shadowood

20131004-133832.jpg
Recently we reported that Regal Shadowood 16 has added recliners to their theaters.  We have now learned that Shadowood is also offering reserved seating. Or to put it another way, assigned seating.
You can purchase tickets online through Fandango. Since there is now more limited seating, it is a good idea to purchase your tickets ahead of time. If you don’t plan ahead, you might get stuck in the front or another difficult seating situation.
