2014: Improvements Coming to Turnpike Glades Exit
The Sun Sentinel reports that Florida’s Turnpike will make improvements to the Glades Road Exit. It is the only exit for Boca Raton and a key traffic driver in West Boca.
From the article, it appears that these improvements will not begin until 2014. They’re planning to convert to electronic tolls. Since they already have electronic tolls, what this probably means is that they will eliminate any non-SunPass usage, as has been done in Miami-Dade County.
They will add an exit lane on the northbound side and substantially increase the length of the exit lanes. This may help traffic getting off the Turnpike but (in our opinion) will increase the traffic load on Glades.
They will also add a second right-turn lane onto Glades for those heading westbound into West Boca. Later they will increase the length of the right-turn lane onto the Turnpike for those coming from Central Boca.
Apparently the real fix would be a new exit at Palmetto Park Road, but NIMBY folks here in West Boca put a stop to that. We have to admit this does make Palmetto a pleasant drive.
