Breast Cancer Awareness Month

breast-cancer-ribbonOctober has been designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you would like to support the cause, there are plenty of opportunities in Boca. Saks Fifth Avenue is selling a limited edition tee-shirt for $35, online and in stores, to benefit its 2013 Key to the Cure Campaign. All proceeds will be donated to EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund. When you shop October 17 to 20, Saks at Town Center will donate 2% of sales to women’s cancer charities.
Altier Jewelers is holding Pretty in Pink on October 22, 2013, an evening to raise awareness and funds for Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Guests will have the chance to meet Special Guest Christine E. Susan G. Komen South Florida is holding its 8th Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon on October 9th at the Woodfield Country Club. Speakers include Dr. Louise Morrell, medical director of the Lynn Cancer Institute, volunteers and survivors. For more information, call Amanda Allen at 561-514-3020 ext. 10.
The BRRH Go Pink Luncheon takes place at the Boca Raton Resort and Club on October 25th from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The keynote speaker is Rob Lowe, a well-known actor and author. Saks Fifth Avenue has donated an auction prize that includes two tickets to the Etro Fall Runway Collection fashion show in Milan. All proceeds raised will benefit the Christine E. acspc-040032On October 26th, the American Cancer Society of South Palm Beach will host the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The walk starts at 8:30 am at Mizner Park Amphitheater. The event raises money for breast cancer research and education. Call 561-394-7751 for more information.
And finally, take care of yourself or encourage a loved one, and get a mammogram. Most insurance companies and medicare cover the cost of mammograms. If you don’t have insurance, screening mammograms are available for $75 from The Center for Breast Care at Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute or The Breast Center at West Boca Dianostic Imaging.
