Black History Month

black-history-monthFebruary is Black History Month. Barnes & Noble in University Commons is having a kickoff event on February 1st at 11 a.m. Florida Atlantic University is having over 20 events to celebrate the month. There is an Opening Ceremony on February 5th from noon to 1 p.m. at Traditions Plaza featuring The Venus Rising Women’s Drum & Dance Ensemble. Other highlights include the Black Arts Expo on February 18th from 7 to 9 p.m. and the FAU Repertory Dance Theatre Ensemble presenting “A Change is Gonna Come” on February 28th at 1 p.m. and March 1st at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. To learn more, visit http://www.fau.edu/explore/blackhistory.
The West Boca Branch of the Public Library will be having a film and discussion on February 12th at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate the month. Barbara Wolk, a local film festival organizer, will introduce the PG-13 movie. Moonlight Stories with Orisirisi African Folklore takes place on February 20th at 11:30 a.m. at the West Boca Branch and 3:30 p.m. at the Glades Road Branch. This program is appropriate for all ages and features African tales, drumming, dance and songs.
