We were asked by some students to publish their article, so here it is:
FCCLA stands for Family Career Community Leaders of America. The club teaches life skills and has many benefits including: leadership, teamwork, communication, public speaking and family skills.
Students compete in competitions known as STAR events which help build the skills mentioned earlier, while doing community service. The STAR events stand for Students Taking Action with Recognition. Students compete in multiple categories ranging from Environmental Ambassadors, to Entrepreneurship, and Promote and Publicize. After presenting the project, judges compare the project to others from different members around the state. Once students have been the opportunity to compete at the next level, they travel to a national competition. This year the national competition will be held in San Antonio, Texas.
Mackenzie Jones, our chapter President Elect is in her first year of FCCLA. When asked about the benefits of FCCLA she said, “FCCLA is a great way to improve your teamwork and leadership skills, make new friends and have fun!” Some our 6th members who heard of FCCLA through school gathering shared their input on the club. “It is an amazing new experience and I think that everyone should join.” explains Nicole Tesmond. “FCCLA is allows kids to complete community service and build teamwork skills.” said Samantha Spoonhoward. Our members truly enjoy FCCLA and its opportunities it offers.
Omni’s members also went on a leadership retreat which improved teamwork, leadership, problem solving, organization and decision making skills. Our chapter participated in a game of human checkers; create a drink, planning schedules and more!
For this year’s national program, Omni Middle School’s FCCLA chapter will travel to Pine Jog Elementary to [host] a party for children diagnosed with autism. We will provide toys, snacks and stuffed animals to the kids.
All in all, FCCLA is an incredible way to improve many life skills, such as leadership, teamwork, public speaking, communication, and problem solving skills. And you can have fun doing it!
