Road Rage Reduction Tips: Part 2
We previously offered some tips for reducing road rage in West Boca. Here’s another one.
This is a turn signal lever:
If you push it up, it will activate lights on the right side of your car that will flash to other drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. If you push it down it will cause lights on the left side of your car to flash.
These flashing lights signal that you are about to move your car to the right, or to the left. By using the lever, you communicate with others on and near the road, and this communication helps make our society better.
When you don’t use the lever and then you turn or change lanes, it has a tendency to irritate those around you, thus producing road rage.
Experts say that increased use of turn signals increases overall driver satisfaction, rising with the square of the increase. So with just a 10% increase in signalling we can expect a 20% decrease in road rage.*
Within West Boca it is particularly important to use your signal near intersections such as Glades & 441, Palmetto Park & Lyons, and especially anywhere within a mile of Century Village.
* Disclosure: We didn’t really talk to experts about the impact of turn signal usage on road rage. We just made it up.
