Readers reported to us that there was a major accident at 441 and Palmetto Park Road in the early hours this morning. A few minutes ago one reader sent us the above image (edited to fit our site).
Our first notice of the accident was a message from a reader at 5:48 am:
There is a horrible accident at the intersection of 441 & Palmetto. Looks like 2 vehicles involved. They are not letting traffic through the intersection.
Around 6:30 am another reader messaged us:
441 and palmetto closed and homicide unit is there. Any info?
We didn’t have any info then and not much more now, though we have inquired of both the Sheriff and Fire Rescue. The Vehicle Homicide Unit’s presence suggests a fatality or near-fatality.
A third reader messaged us before 7 am:
Good morning! Heavy police activity on 441 and palmetto. Car accident involving an suv. The intersection is shut down, police advising to seek alternate route. Several cop cars on scene. Hope all involved is ok. Heard helicopters from palmetto pines.
By the time we looked at it, traffic appeared to be clear. Other readers posted comments saying it was as early as 1 am.
