Restaurant Inspections – Mid-April

It was a pretty good week for inspections. PF Chang’s had one of the worst reports, though not terrible, with 15 violations including 4 marked high priority.

  • Employee touched face/hair and then engaged in food preparation, handled clean equipment or utensils, or touched unwrapped single-service items without washing hands. Servers sent to wash hands . Reviewed proper handwashing. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Employee washed hands with cold water. Employee washed hands with Water at 80° F in dishwashing area. Employee rewashed hands with hot water. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. Raw shelled eggs over cabbage at Traulsen cooler in cookline area. Foods moved and properly stored. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Toxic substance/chemical stored by or with food. Butane bottles stored above soda boxes in dry storage area. Chemicals moved and properly stored. **Corrected On-Site**

Bella Amici Pizzeria in Delray Marketplace recorded the same numbers and also had a stop-sale on a couple items:

  • Container of medicine improperly stored. At dry storage unit Advil container on shelf with food products. Operator removed. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Display case cooler – cooked pasta 48°, sweet butter balls 48°, operator stated all held over 4 hours. See Stop Sale. Glass cooler- raw veal 48° and chicken 46°-48° operator cooked meats products. **Corrective Action Taken**
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. Raw chicken over sweet butter balls in walk in cooler. Operator moved raw chicken to a different shelf. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Display case cooler – cooked pasta 48°, sweet butter balls 48°, operator stated all held over 4 hours.

Others with more than 10 violations include Saito Japanese Steakhouse in Coconut Creek’s Promenade (13 with 3 high priority), Greek Emporium on Military in Delray (13, 1), and Nino’s on Jog in Delray (12, 1).

There were several licensing inspections. Opening soon in West Boca will be Boca Italiana, on Glades Road west of the Turnpike. We mentioned this earlier on our Facebook page. We checked with the plaza and they are hoping to open this week. Their inspection had only one minor violation.

In East Boca three licensing inspections were on Federal Highway: Our Place (3 minor violations), Sonny’s (1 high priority), and Tucker Dukes (perfect), along with Fresh Kitchen Express on Meadows Road (1 high priority) and The Healthy Food Factory on NW 16th (perfect). House of Cheung on NE 20th had a relatively bad one with 6 violations including 3 high priority. There was also one in Coconut Creek for Carbon Juice Bar, on the east side of 441 just north of the Sawgrass.
For routine inspections the best this week was Cafe Grind in Delray Marketplace with 3 minor violations. Other notables include:

  • California Pizza Kitchen in Town Center (3 violations, 2 high priority)
  • Miller’s Ale House on Yamato (3, 2)
  • Open Kitchen Cafe (near Miller’s) (3, 1)
  • Philly Grill on Military in Delray (5, 0)
  • Bluefin in Parkland (5, 0)
  • Truluck’s in Mizner Park (5, 2)
  • Shula Burger in Delray Marketplace (9, 3)
