Inspections: Mozzarita not so neat-a

This week’s restaurant inspection report was mostly good. But Mozzarita Bar on Clint Moore at 441 had the worst inspection in this report with 19 violations including 6 marked high priority:

  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food.
  • Employee rubbed hands together for less than 10-15 seconds while washing hands.
  • Employee washed hands with no soap.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. REACH IN COOLER – (Sandwich Table) mozzarella 46° sauces 46°
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. – raw chicken breasts uncovered Ed and directly above cooked sauces, soups, mozzarella cheese, baked breads, and breaded eggplant. – in tall “Metalfrio” reach in cooler.
  • Single-use gloves not changed as needed after changing tasks or when damaged or soiled.

We should mention that we like the place. This inspection is not that bad (some violations seem nitpicky and they got hit a few times for the same things) and won’t stop us from eating there. But at the same time it never seems busy and we’re worried they won’t last. If you haven’t tried it, we suggest going there soon.
There’s plenty of good news including five perfect routine inspections. They include Sushi Jessie, La Villetta and Big Joe’s Burgers on North Federal Highway, Wendy’s on Yamato (East Boca); and Jerkit Cuisine in Coconut Creek.

The newly renamed Padano Gastro Bistro in Logger’s Run scored a near-perfect inspection with only one intermediate violation. Their Facebook page looks like it’s still a pizza place. We called just now and confirmed that they open for business tomorrow.
The popular Thick and Thin in Sandalfoot also had a near perfect inspection with one minor violation.

Brendy’s in the Polo Club Shoppes did well with only 2 minor violations.
Tomasso’s Pizza and Subs also had 2 minor violations (Palmetto just east of I-95).
Other notables include Monkey Joe’s in Logger’s Run with 5 violations (2 high priority); El Balcon de las Americas on Powerline in Deerfield Beach (9 violations, 5 high priority); and Rotelli’s on Yamato in East Boca (9 violations, 1 high priority).
