Boca Sub Shop Closed: Rodents

A chain sub sandwich shop in East Boca was forced to temporarily close by restaurant inspectors after they found something rodent-related. That and details on 18 more restaurant inspections from the past week in our full article below.

The Firehouse Subs in the Fifth Avenue Shops plaza had only 5 violations but the high priority one was a doozy that shut them down.

Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Three dry dropping found under the hand wash sink in kitchen and three dry dropping by rear entrance. 1 lizard dropping by rear entrance. manager cleaned and sanitized the area with bleach.

The biggest number this week was for Bru’s Room on Hillsboro near 441 in Coconut Creek with 16 violations, 2 of them high priority. One involved a dish washing machine needing a repair related to chlorine, and the other was rice kept too warm.

Chops Lobster Bar in Mizner Park had 12 violations, 1 high priority (hand washing). Di Pizza on 441 in Parkland had 10 violations, 3 high priority (food temperatures, and too much chlorine in a cleaning device.


Best of the week goes to Taqueria El Molcajete in East Boca with just one minor violation. The Burger King on Glades near Boca Rio also did well with one violation.

Hooters near Town Center did well with 3 violations.

In the middle with 7 violations each were Coopers Hawk in Coconut Creek’s Promenade, and Mythos Taverna which takes over the space formerly held by Jimmy the Greek.
