Good Week for Restaurant Inspections
There weren’t many local inspections and the news is pretty good. Below we report on a total of 14 inspections, including some fairly new places in West Boca that did well. Most of the bad news, which wasn’t terrible, was south of the border in Broward.
Pho Boca’s new location in the Polo Club Shoppes had a perfect inspection. Also doing well was the new Kekoa (see our Facebook post) with just one minor violation.
We often see bad inspections for buffet restaurants and one of the worst this week was for Santo’s Buffet in Coconut Creek. The numbers weren’t that bad with 12 violations and 5 high priority. Here’s the details, which do not bode well for sushi eaters:
- Dishmachine chlorine sanitizer not at proper minimum strength. Discontinue use of dishmachine for sanitizing and set up manual sanitization until dishmachine is repaired and sanitizing properly. Dish machine at bar next to sushi station chlorine 0ppm.
- Nonexempt fish offered raw or undercooked has not undergone proper parasite destruction. Fish must be fully cooked or discarded. Salmon and Eskolar missing parasite destruction records or vendor specific information.
- Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food hot held at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above. eggrolls (137°F – Hot Holding) on buffet for less than 1 hour per Manager. Egg rolls reheated to 169F. **Corrected On-Site**
- Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food identified in the written procedure as a food held using time as a public health control has no time marking and the time removed from temperature control cannot be determined. Rice and butter containers at cook line not marked with time. Manager stated rice and butter at cook line less than 3 hours and marked with time. **Corrected On-Site**
- Wiping cloth sanitizer solution exceeds the maximum concentration allowed. Chlorine 200ppm. Water added to sanitizer bucket and retested 50ppm. **Corrected On-Site**
The other relatively bad inspection was the La Rural Argentinian Steakhouse on 441 in Parkland’s Riverstone Shoppes (just north of Rising Tide Carwash). They also had 12 violations, with 3 high priority:
- Dishmachine chlorine sanitizer not at proper minimum strength. Discontinue use of dishmachine for sanitizing and set up manual sanitization until dishmachine is repaired and sanitizing properly. Observed dishwasher chlorine at 0ppm.
- Medicine stored in refrigerator/cooler with food. Observed DayQuil stored in reach in cooler at the frontline. Operator removed and stored properly. **Corrected On-Site**
- Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. 1. Observed raw shell eggs stored over basil in walked in cooler. Operator removed and stored properly. 2. Observed raw chicken stored over ready to eat sausage in 2 door reach in cooler on frontline. Operator removed and stored properly 3. Observed raw salmon stored over ready to eat empanadas. Operator removed and stored properly **Corrected On-Site** **Repeat Violation**
Others of note this week include Duffy’s on Hillsboro with 7 violations, and Terra Fiamma in Delray Marketplace with 6 violations – all minor.
