Asian Apocalypse: Restaurant Inspections

Multiple Asian restaurants in West Boca had bad inspections in the past week. Two long-established places had 30 or more violations and another one had 25. A burger joint and a deli also were hit with more than 20 violations.

We stopped going to Hashi Sushi Thai years ago and we’ve never looked back. The longtime Shadowood restaurant was just hit by inspectors with 37 violations. Despite the big number, only three were marked high priority:

  • Raw animal foods not properly separated from each other in holding unit. – raw chicken behind mini corn, behind noodles, behind shrimp, behind beef
  • Shell eggs held at room temperature with an ambient air temperature greater than 45 degrees Fahrenheit. **Corrected On-Site** **Repeat Violation**
  • Vacuum breaker missing at mop sink faucet or on fitting/splitter added to mop sink faucet.

Also with a big number is Chen’s Yokohama, an aging resident of Boca Lyons Plaza. Yokohama had 30 violations, two of them high priority:

  • Food-contact surfaces not sanitized after cleaning, before use. Do not use equipment/utensils not properly sanitized. – on top of the single door “Premium” REACH IN FREEZER are stored trays, utensils, and an electric blender that are unclean, unsanitary.
  • Vacuum breaker missing at mop sink faucet or on fitting/splitter added to mop sink faucet.

Others with big numbers include:

Popular Chinese take-out joint Bamboo Wok, with 25 violations, 2 high priority. Bamboo Wok is on Glades just west of Lyons. In the same plaza, Pho Boca had 18 violations, also 2 high priority.

Lindburgers near Home Depot had 24 violations, 4 of them high priority with a stop sale order:

Last of the big number inspections was Mythos Taverna, which replaced Jimmy the Greek. They had 18 violations with one high priority.

There’s some good news as well. One of our favorite Italian places, Stallone’s, had just one minor violation. Two others did similarly well, Lublu in Somerset Shoppes, and the BurgerFi on SW 18th at Powerline.

Dunkin Donuts on Glades near Boca Rio, in the plaza with the International Jeweler’s Exchange and Boca Black Box, had just two minor violations.

SW 18th had some more pretty good results with 3 violations at Oliv Pit, and 4 violations at Holloway’s and Cilluffo’s.
