Roaches Close East Boca Restaurant

An East Boca restaurant was closed by inspectors due to roaches on the premises. Otherwise it was a pretty good week for inspections.

Troy’s Barbeque restaurant was closed for two straight days. They had 8 violations on the first inspection including 4 marked high priority.

  • Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, or food storage area. Observed approximately: 10 live flying insects in rear prep area landing on walls and clean utensils. 50 live flying insects at cookline. Landing on single service items, soda boxes, and containers of food.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food hot held at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Mac n cheese 71F Hot Holding in oven. Food Discarded. Pork 116F at steam table in cookline. Sent to be reheated to 165F and hot held to 135F . Corrective Action Taken. **Corrected On-Site** **Repeat Violation** **Admin Complaint**
  • Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 1 live roach roach on wall above 3 compartment sink.
  • Toxic substance/chemical stored by or with single-service items. Chemical clean8ng solution bottle stored with takeout containers on shelving unit near cookline. Bottle moved. **Repeat Violation** **Admin Complaint**

There was also a dead roach found as a basic violation: “Dead roaches on premises. 1 dead roach by back door at end of cookline.”

In the follow-up inspection the next day, the inspection found two more dead roaches: “2 dead roaches on floor by back door at end of cookline. Operator removed dead roaches, cleaned and sanitized area.” They also continued to find live flying insects:

There were two other bad inspections worth noting. Way Beyond Bagels on Clint Moore (near 441) had 11 violations with 3 high priority.

  • Dishmachine chlorine sanitizer not at proper minimum strength. Discontinue use of dishmachine for sanitizing and set up manual sanitization until dishmachine is repaired and sanitizing properly. Dishmachine Tested at 0 PPM on THREE Cycles.
  • Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, or food storage area.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. REACH IN COOLER – cook line Diced ham 48F, sliced ham 50F, grilled onions 52F, feta cubes 46F, salmon 48F, olives 47F, KITCHEN – tub of egg whites and pooled eggs 53F. – refrigeration service arrived and serviced equipment **Corrective Action Taken**

In Mizner Park, Max’s Grill had 10 violations, 4 high priority:

  • Employee used tobacco, ate, or drank then engaged in food preparation, handled clean equipment or utensils, or touched unwrapped single-service items without washing hands. Employee drank from open beverage container at cook line and then handle container with food without washing hands and changing gloves. Employee washed hands. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. goat cheese 63F, ricotta 62F, butter 58F in front line area. Ice not to food level. Foods moved to cooler to quick chill . cheese 49F at frontline cooler. Moved to working cooler. butter 88F at cookline under no temperature control by grill. Time marked. butter 55F on ice at end of cookline. Ice not to food level. Added ice to food level. **Corrective Action Taken** **Repeat Violation**
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. Raw shelled eggs stored behind veggies at cold holding drawers at cook line. Foods moved and properly stored. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Toxic substance/chemical stored by or with clean or in-use utensils. Glass cleaners by clean cups in wait station. Chemical moved. **Corrected On-Site**

Other than those three it was mostly good news. The best inspection for the week was at Sweet Tomatoes on Beracasa Way (near the Winn Dixie close to Palmetto and Powerline) with just one minor violation.

Back in Mizner Park, Kapow Noodle Bar and The Dubliner both did well with 3 violations each. Mozart Cafe at Powerline and Camino Real and The Wow Factory on Lyons each had 3 minor violations.

In the still-not-bad category, iPic Theaters, Nino’s on Beracasa, and Chill & Grill Pita on Beracasa all had 5 violations. Duffy’s in Mission Bay had 6 minor violations.
