Restaurant Inspection Report

Nearly 70 inspections covered in this week’s report. Bad Chinese, Good Cafe, New Italian, etc.

Worst of the week goes to East Boca’s House of Cheung (Winfield Plaza, off Federal Highway across from 5th Avenue Shops) with 17 violations including 4 marked high priority by inspectors:

  • Employee handled soiled dishes or utensils and then handled clean dishes or utensils without washing hands. – employee going directly from manual ware washing soiled pots and pans to WALKIN COOLER and then COOK LINE handling ready to eat foods.
  • Food-contact surfaces not sanitized after cleaning, before use. Do not use equipment/utensils not properly sanitized. – manual ware washing taking place with No Sanitizer step.
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. – in WALKIN COOLER – raw chicken directly above uncovered fresh vegetables
  • Stop Sale issued due to adulteration of food product. – 30 Egg Rolls sitting in top of cardboard box.

The next biggest number goes to one of our local West Boca favorites, Red Boat in Piccadilly Square. They had 15 violations, 3 high priority.

  • Operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. – Front Cold Table Chicken 51F-52F. placed in freezer for quick chill. **Corrective Action Taken**
  • Vacuum breaker missing at mop sink faucet or on fitting/splitter added to mop sink faucet. **Repeat Violation**

Also in Piccadilly Square, Mythos Taverna did better with 6 violations, 1 high priority.

In the Sandalfoot Publix plaza Orient Garden had 8 violations with 1 high priority. A few doors down Little Caesar’s had 7 violations, 1 high priority. Further down in the same plaza La Perrada Del Gordo had 5 violations, 2 high priority. Also, Lucky’s Frozen Yogurt had 4 violations, 3 high priority.

In West Boca Square (the Target plaza), Long Island Bagel had 8 violations, 4 high priority:

  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. corn beef (46°F); cream cheese mix (46°F); smoke salmon (46°F); noodle (47°F); pea soup (47°F) ambient of unit 40°F. Per cook door was left open to prep in the morning. Reach in cooler on cook line: 2 bags French fries (47°F); 2lbs cheese (47°F) left overnight in unit ambient of unit 50°F. See stop sale. spinach (49°F); ham (50°F); salmon (46°F); cooked onions (47°F); cooked peppers (56°F); mushroom (53°F); sliced tomatoes (48°F all food was prepped this morning and put in a unit not working.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food identified in the written procedure as a food held using time as a public health control has no time marking and the time removed from temperature control cannot be determined. See stop sale. Eggs and cook line and expo line with no date mark.
  • Single-use gloves not changed as needed after changing tasks or when damaged or soiled. Dish washer needs to change gloves and wash hands between solid and clean dishes.
  • Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. Reach in cooler on cook line: 2 bags French fries (47°F); 2lbs cheese (47°F) left overnight in unit ambient of unit 50°F. See stop sale.

The best report this week was for Vinny’s All Day Cafe in Woodfield Plaza (Yamato and Jog) with a perfect inspection – no violations.

We also see a licensing inspection for Baffi’s Italian Restaurant. The address puts it on the west side of 441 near SW 18th, in the space that was Johnny B’s. The inspection showed 2 minor violations.

Other notables this week include:

  1. Dominic’s in Westwinds with 5 minor violations
  2. Yard House in Mizner Park (5 violations, 2 high priority)
  3. Rex Baron in Town Center (4, 0)
  4. Lucille’s BBQ in Woodfield Plaza (1, 0)
  5. Kekoa on Glades near the Turnpike (1, 1)
