Vasconcellos Sentenced in Fatal Accident in April 2023
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 5:38 a.m. Samuel Carvalho Vasconcellos pled guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal crash that occurred on April 29, 2023, on SW 18th Street in Boca Raton. The crash tragically resulted in the death of a cyclist, Longuino Amaral Junior. Vasconcellos received a sentence of 4 years in state prison, 5 years of probation, 12 months of community control, 100 hours of community service, and a 3-year driver’s license suspension.
Vasconcellos was driving eastbound on SW 18th St in the outside lane directly behind Amaral. Amaral’s bike had front and rear lights. Vasconcellos struck the rear of the bike causing Amaral to be ejected. Vasconcelloes exited his vehicle and made contact with the victim but then left the scene. Amaral was transported to Delray Medical Center by Palm Beach County Fire rescue with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead on May 1, 2023.
According to his obituary, Amaral, 46, was born in Divinopolis, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
