Movie Review: The Way Way Back

We don’t normally write movie reviews on West Boca News, but The Way Way Back was so good we had to write about it. We saw it at the Regal Shadowood tonight.
It’s a coming-of-age story. We loved everything about it. The writing was excellent, displaying a number of awkward moments with delicate discomfort. It tells a great story. The acting was superb, especially Steve Carell who plays a supporting role. The main character is played very well by Liam James, a young actor we’ve never seen before. An important part of a solid story is character development and James deftly navigates his character’s growth throughout the film.
One of the things I loved about the movie is that some events take place in a water park, with Sam Rockwell filling in a role somewhat reminiscent of Bill Murray in Meatballs, often lighthearted but mostly deeper and more serious.
In our opinion, The Way Way Back is the movie of the year. Catch it while it’s still in theaters. From the Regal website, it does look like it’ll be in Shadowood for at least one more week.
The Way Way Back is rated PG-13. Language and adult themes may make it inappropriate for elementary school kids, and they’re also not likely to understand it or enjoy it.
