Chamber Breakfast – Sharon Bock
this morning’s chamber breakfast speaker was Sharon Bock, the elected Clerk & Comptroller for the county. She spoke at length about the county’s finances. Some of the charts she showed us are at the bottom of this article.
Ms. Bock explained that, unlike the federal and state governments, there is only one main branch of government at the county level. The county commission has both the legislative and executive roles, while the courts are a state entity. The comptroller is the main check and balance on the commission, particularly on their spending. As she puts it, her job is to spend our money wisely.
The audience was receptive and interested.
One observer thought she spoke like a politician and commented privately on the cost of the handout that was provided, complete with fancy folder and pen. But the audience as a whole seemed positive.
The breakfast was at Boca Greens, as usual, and attendance was up a little from last time. There were a few new members.
Here are the graphs and charts from Ms. Bock’s presentation. One thing that stood out to us was the heavy spending on public safety.
