Boca Ballet Theatre welcomes all to exceptional summer performances and workshops in Boca Raton.

Boca Raton’s local Ballet Theatre, known for their compelling performances and outreach dance programs, recently released their June edition of features. Included in their features, is a special on two elite members of their upcoming summer performance of La Sylphide.

La Sylphide is the centuries old tale of a Scotsman named James falling hopelessly in love on his wedding day, but not to his bride. Rather, James falls for a magical sylph, or an imaginary spirit, in a performance nothing short of enchanting and elegant.

New York City Ballet’s Emma Von Enck and Anthony Huxley are renowned ballet dancers known for previous magical performances in BBT’s The Nutcracker. Both NYCB dancers are excited to rejoin the Boca Ballet Theatre for another show stopping performance.

La Sylphide will be performed on Saturday, July 27th at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, July 28th at 2:00 PM. It will be hosted at the Countess de Hoernle Theatre at Spanish River High School.

During the summer, the BBT also conducts workshops for aspiring dancers of all ages. The BBT hosts multiple Youth Summer Workshops, including the short and sweet Princess Ballerina Camp, and Workshops A, B, and C for young ballerinas of differing levels.

In addition, the BBT will be hosting the College Dance Fair from August 30th to September 1st, 2024. Participating students will have the opportunity to meet representatives from prestigious dance programs across the country, including NYC Tisch, AMDA, and more.

Celebrate NYCB and BBT’s accredited dancers in their final summer performance of the season, and commemorate the wonderful outreach dance programs happening in our neighborhood!

A Secret Wonder in West Boca

Boca Raton is home to many secret wonders. From the fun shops and performances in Mizner Park to the great restaurants around town. But, one of the best wonders of West Boca is by far Sugar Sand Park.

Down Military and Palmetto, Sugar Sand Park is over 100 acres of grassy trails and opportunities for the kids. At the park, there are six baseball fields, multiple basketball courts, two nature trails, and a hockey rink. Not to mention the Science playground, Carousel, Explorium, and Willow Theatre.

In the Science Explorium, located to the right of the Community Center, families are welcome to learn about science in action through hands-on science activities. Children are also encouraged to participate in free activities, such as Bugio Bingo, Grab ‘n’ Go Eco Packs, Challenge sheets, and the beloved Experiment Express! The Explorium is open weekdays from 9am to 6pm and weekends from 10am to 5pm with free entry, but donations are greatly encouraged.

The Willow Theater is another favorite of the Park, presenting entertaining shows and music in a 155-seat theater with tickets averaging $20 at the box office. Featured shows are a perfect night out for families and adults. Upcoming shows can be found at www.sugarsandpark.org/willow-theatre.

It’s easy to spend a hot summer’s day at the park, beginning with a nice nature walk around the Florida wilderness, cooling off with a relaxing ride around the carousel, basking in the sun on the Science playground, and finally, taking a breather as the kids run around the air-conditioned Explorium. And, if you or your teens are looking for some ways to help out in your community this summer, both the Explorium and the Theater welcome local volunteers!

So, when you find yourself looking for something to do this summer, consider taking your family for a fun, activity-filled adventure at Sugar Sand Park, and enjoying one of the hidden wonders of West Boca.
