The 2012 West Boca Ballot

West Boca residents, this is what your ballot will probably look like:

That’s the front of page A. There are 3 double sided pages. The rest are constitutional amendments, which we will address in the future.
We figure the presidential race has been well covered, so starting with US Senate:

Connie Mack is the Republican. He’s cast quite a few votes against the party establishment showing he’s more independent than most. Democrat Bill Nelson is pretty much in the left-middle of his party.
Next is our congressional seat and the State Attorney race.

Incumbent Democrat Congressman Ted Deutch seems quite proud of his plan to boost Social Security through a massive tax increase on the upper middle class. Challenger Cesar Henao, an Independent, carries himself well and has some good ideas. Henao seems to be a long shot but you never know.
We have already endorsed Dina Keever for State Attorney. Gershman is the clear second choice. Aronberg is a walking ethics violation.
Next the two state legislature races:

Republicans Peterson and O’Hara have impressed us in the past. They have little or no experience in office (which some might consider a good thing). Democrats Abruzzo and Rader have both held state office and tout the same plan to collect sales taxes from consumers buying from Amazon and other websites.
Next is County Commission and the judicial retention.

I’m hopelessly biased because Paul Tocker has been a friend for about 10 years. He’s a great guy but he’s got long odds. I haven’t seen Berger yet so all I know is she worked for Burt Aaronson.
Judicial retention is a hot issue for insiders but I’m not sure how much the voters care. The Democrats are concerned that a No vote would let Gov. Scott appoint three new justices. I read the decisions people complain about and I didn’t agree with them but neither did I think they were so bad as to require a No vote. I haven’t made up my mind yet.
Last, a couple more judge retention votes and the soil and water conservation district. We’ve heard nothing about these but will try to report on them before the election.
