Burt and Max in Delray Marketplace

We had the pleasure of dining with another couple at Burt & Max in Delray Marketplace, one of the first restaurants to open in this shiny new shopping mecca.

It looks good from the outside, and it’s pretty nice inside too. From what we hear, there’s some connection to Max’s Grille in Mizner Park, which is another fine establishment.
Parking can be a minor hassle, but there is a valet eager to take your car and your tip. We drove around back and found a spot, but it was still tight. It might be rough once the other restaurants are open and the place is in full gear.
Here’s another shot of the side of Burt & Max where they have outdoor seating:

We ate inside. The food was very good. The four of us had the Rainbow Trout special, the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon, the Meditteranean Branzino, and a Cioppino special. All were well prepared. The Cioppino came out without the fish that we were told was in it, but the waitress was able to get some fish out to cover that mistake. We also had a Caesar Salad. It was pretty good, though the portion was not huge considering it was billed as “for the table.”

Each couple had a dessert. The other couple had the creme brûlée tart, and we had a Sundae. Like everything else, they were tasty and the dessert portions were a bit more generous. Here’s a look at the Creme Brûlée tart.

It was not cheap. Between the four of us with no alcohol, a couple iced teas, a large salad appetizer, four entrees and two desserts, it was about $170 with tip. It’d be easy to go over $50 per person.
Overall, Burt & Max has a great atmosphere, very good food, but some might be taken aback by the check at the end.
