A "Sunset Menu" Deal at Bistro Gastronomie
The only truly high-end restaurant in West Boca is now offering a Sunset Menu deal for early bird diners. Both the hours and the menu are limited, but it’s an opportunity to get a taste of the best for a more bearable price.
See our review of Bistro Gastronomie for a full take on the place. If you go for their regular four-course prix fixe menu you can expect to spend over $100 per person without alcohol. If you’re very careful you can probably keep it to $80 but this is not a place to be careful.
Their new three-course Sunset Menu is priced at $29 per person, so even with tax and tip you should save $60 or so.
Note that this menu is only available Sunday through Thursday and you have to get your order in by 6:30 pm. There is some variability in the menu so on some nights it may include the “Petite Choucroute” (a classic sausage and sauerkraut dish) and on other nights that may be replaced by “Calves Liver, Caramelized Onions, White Wine Sauce, Pancetta.”
That might not be something that grabs everyone, but it sounds a lot like an Emeril Lagasse recipe:
Bistro Gastronomie recently received a favorable review on the Sun Sentinel’s SouthFlorida.com, though we did chuckle at this line:
The best way to dine at Bistro Gastronomie is to partake in a four-course prix fixe, which lowers the price of dinner …
It’s true that the prix fixe saves money if you’re going to get four courses. You can lower the price a lot more by only getting one or two courses, but that misses the whole point of eating here, because then you’re missing the experience. With the Sunset Menu, you get close to the full experience for a lot less.
Eating at Bistro Gastronomie reminds this author of the dining scenes in The Big Night, which by the way is a wonderful movie.
