Best and Worst Chinese Restaurants in Boca

Our survey results are in and we had over 240 people respond. The overall winner by reader rankings was PF Chang’s near FAU. We’re actually not fans of the place because it’s not authentic and a lot of the dishes are too salty for us. However, our readers have spoken and 75% of them rated PF Chang above average with 40% scoring it a “4” (Good) and another 35% a “5” (Great). Only 8% rated it below average.
The two Pei Wei Asian Diner locations also did well. One is on Federal Highway (62% above average) and the other near Palmetto and Powerline (57%). Pei Wei is owned by the same company as PF Chang.
Others that with positive reader votes include Uncle Tai’s (62% above average) near Town Center and Stir Crazy (59%) in Town Center.

The winner west of the Turnpike is pretty clearly Bamboo Wok, which is on the north side of Glades just west of Lyons Road.

While the ratings for Bamboo Wok were not overwhelmingly positive, nearly 55% rated it above average and only 20% rated it below average.

Gary Woo Express at Yamato and 441 was the next best rated west of the Turnpike with 45% above average. Mr. Shen’s Peking across Glades from Bamboo Wok did okay with 35% positive and 26% negative. Lucky Palace in West Boca Square (near Target) had the most votes west of the Turnpike and readers were somewhat ambivalent about it. 42% rated it worse than average, while 20% considered it good and only 8% said it was great. It had the dubious distinction of the most total votes for “average.”
A number of restaurants received poor ratings overall. The worst was Orchid Garden on Lyons near Century Village, with 63% below average and 39% calling it terrible. Also not faring well were Asia at Powerline and Camino Real (58%), China Cafe in Logger’s Run (53%), Hunan City in Lakeridge (57% negative), Lucky Express (near Clint Moore and Military, 56%), Wok Out in Polo Club Shoppes (55%), Duck King on Federal north of Yamato (54%), China One on Palmetto near NW 12th (54%), China Spring II near Sandalfoot (53%), Oriental Express on Camino Real near Dixie Highway (53%) and Kiki’s Asian Bistro (Federal Highway near Palmetto). China Ming in Boca Greens was in the middle of the pack, with only 18% rating it better than average, but less than 50% negative.
We also asked readers for suggestions outside the ones we listed, both in and near West Boca, as well as elsewhere in South Florida. Suggestions for South Florida included Silver Pond (which we’ve heard about many times), China Dumpling, Rainbow Palace. Closer to home we got this word cloud:

Silver Pond and Hong Kong City are some distance to the south on 441, near the Turnpike exit for Commercial:
