Late May Restaurant Inspections: Mostly Good
We found mostly good news in our latest review of restaurant inspections. For starters three restaurants in West Boca (stretching to include Town Center) had perfect inspections.
There were only a few inspections west of the Turnpike. Of those, the only perfect score (no violations) was for the McDonald’s in Sandalfoot. There were two others in Town Center (considered by some to be West Boca): The Earl of Sandwich and Cafe Gelato Panini.
Other West Boca restaurants that did reasonably well were Villa Rosano and Brendy’s Yogurt in The Reserve (Clint Moore & 441). Each had only 3 violations with none marked as high priority. Near there The Oaks Bistro, at the clubhouse inside the gated community, had a fairly low 4 violations with 1 high priority – “live flies in the kitchen.”
Two other West Boca restaurants were a little worse but still not terrible:
Shrimp House in Town Center had six violations with one listed as serious, though we don’t see how “Vacuum breaker missing at mop sink faucet” ranks as a high priority.
Madison’s New York Grill off Butts Road had seven violations with two listed as high priority, but neither of those looked terribly worrisome, and none required a follow-up inspection.
The worst two by number of violations were in East Boca.
Greenhouse Cafe on Federal Highway had 15 total violations with three labeled high priority and one of those required a stop sale. They had a follow-up inspection that was perfect.
Flashback Diner had 12 violations with five high-priority and a follow-up will be required. The worst related to food temperature and storage issues. We went to Flashback Diner for dessert not too long ago and it was fine. Most of us liked what we had but the New York Cheesecake was disappointing.
Other restaurants with perfect inspections included:
Burger House and Cuthills at 499 East Spanish River Blvd; Our Place, 620 Subs and La Villetta on Federal Highway; Six Tables just south of Mizner Park; Another Broken Egg Cafe in Royal Palm Place; and Meza Mediterranean Grill near the TriRail station. Also Mizner Country Club in West Delray had a perfect zero, as did the Brooklyn Water Bagel on Military Trail in Delray.
In Delray Marketplace, Cabo Flats had only 3 violations with one “high priority” and Tap Global Beer had 6 violations with two high priority. Both were reported as having “live flies in the kitchen” and Tap also had insects in the bar area. We haven’t been in Tap yet, but Cabo sometimes has a lot of open doors so bugs are going to get in.
On the beach in Delray, Caffe Luna Rosa had 3 violations with two of them rated as high priority involving food temperature and storage. Boston’s had eight violations with five high priority, and it was their second inspection in May.
Nearby in Broward, a couple of not-so-great reports from Coconut Creek:
The Jersey Mike’s on 441 in Parkland north of Hillsboro had 7 violations with the most serious having something to do with a chemical test kit for a dishwasher.
A nearby place named “Mason’s” that we’ve never seen had a perfect inspection.
Renzo’s of Parkland (by BJ’s) and Bluefin a little further in both had less than stellar inspections:
