Good Inspections in West Boca
Two West Boca restaurants earned perfect routine inspections. First, we reported before that Sweet Dewey’s BBQ was coming to Glades west of Lyons. They had a perfect zero violations on their December 3rd licensing inspection. We stopped by yesterday. They’re still not open but workers are going all out and they hope to open soon, perhaps next week.
Second, Bakery of France appears to be opening a second location on SW 18th west of Military Trail, near the Outback Steakhouse. Based on the state licensing records, it may be replacing the Marble Slab Creamery (which apparently closed), as they’re using the same license number. The original location in Boca is on Spanish River not far from the beach. Oddly we see no mention of the new location on their website or Facebook page.
In other inspections, five places within the Polo Club country club were inspected. Big Chill, Terrace G, and the Polo Crown Room were all perfect. Polo Club Terrace had 6 minor violations. The worst of our report was their Barefoot Cafe with 10 violations including 2 marked high priority, though they don’t seem that bad to us:
- Employee failed to wash hands before putting on new set of gloves to work with food.
- Small flying insects in outside buffet area.
Three places in Boca West were also inspected, with Mr. D’s and the Pool Bar getting perfect scores. The Sports Pavilion had 6 minor violations.
The bad news isn’t terrible in this report. There were several callbacks. One place we like is Mozart Cafe. They had 7 minor violations, and the worst of it is a pattern of repeat paperwork violations. These seem trivial to us but they’re not trivial to the state agency which recommended an administrative complaint.
“Boca Rosho Pizza”, which we think is Lenny’s Pizza, also had seven violations with similar paperwork problems. However they did also have this high priority violation with a stop-sale:
Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food identified in the written procedure as a food held using time as a public health control has no time marking and the time removed from temperature control cannot be determined. See stop sale. **Warning**
The Subway in Loggers’ Run plaza had 5 minor violations including similar paperwork issues. Please note that 5 violations is usually a very good result compared to most restaurant inspections.
Brooklyn Water Bagel on Powerline, Pita N Go on 441 (near Sandalfoot), and Boca Pita Express on Beracasa all had perfect inspections, and Bagel City South on SW 18th had one minor violation, on their callbacks that were required due to paperwork.
Original Pancake House also had a perfect callback inspection. The previous inspection in September had the usual paperwork problems along with 3 high-priority violations. OPH has a great kids meal deal for families.
Brendy’s in the Polo Club Shoppes had a bad inspection back in September with a temporary shutdown due to roaches. That was followed the next day with a perfect inspection and again for this report on November 17th.
All in all 13 of the 20 restaurants in this report had zero violations. That may be the best we’ve seen since we started doing this.
