Megillah around the Clock

happypurimCongregation B’nai Israel will present “Megillah Around the Clock, a Rock and Roll Purim Shpiel,” on March 6th at 7 p.m. The Synagogue is located at 2200 Yamato Road in Boca Raton. The evening will include favorite tunes from the 1950s and 60s. This year’s Shpiel marks the 25th year that the congregation has presented this exciting event in which the rabbis, cantors, president, choir members and staff perform a full scale show. More than 700 guests are expected to attend the event, which is free and open to the public.
The idea of a Purim Shpiel has been a tradition of the Jewish people for centuries. By the 18th century in eastern Romania and some other parts of Eastern Europe, Purim plays (called Purimshplin) had evolved into broad-ranging satires of the biblical story of Ester with music and dance; precursors to the Yiddish theater.
Congregation B’nai Israel is an inclusive Reform congregation that offers a nurturing home to all who seek a meaningful and enduring connection to Judaism. They strive to serve the needs of families and singles by embracing Jews from all backgrounds.
