Who’s Been Naughty?
In this week’s crime report we have drugs, DUI, and theft, along with an odd case of a mom not making her kid go to school.
We’ll start with the weird one. Nichole Galamidi was arrested for “Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor” for “Parent fail to require school attendance.”
The statute in this arrest is listed as 1003.27(7a1). That’s part of a larger statute on truancy and the subsection reads:
“A parent who refuses or fails to have a minor student who is under his or her control attend school regularly, or who refuses or fails to comply with the requirements in subsection (3), commits a misdemeanor of the second degree”
We looked for the case in the court records and it doesn’t show up. The referenced subsection 3 mentions a truancy petition and that also doesn’t show up in the records, at least under the name Galamidi. It’s possible that the cases are sealed because they involve a minor.
We see four drug cases in the blotter. Our tour of the drug arrests begins with Dennis P. Lyons of Century Village’s Brighton, arrested for possession of Oxycodone (a narcotic) without a prescription. Lyons has had a fair share of criminal cases in both Palm Beach and Broward but we don’t see anything terrifying.
John Klein of Boca Landings was arrested on several drug counts including cocaine, marijuana, and synthetic cannabinoids, plus two controlled substances without prescriptions. Mr. Klein also has had several cases in the Palm Beach and Broward courts, including criminal traffic charges. Klein was discovered by agents checking FedEx packages at the airport.
Sandy Laznick was arrested for marijuana with intent to sell along with three counts for possession of controlled substances. This was a joint operation led by BSO. Laznick was followed from his home into Broward where he was arrested. A subsequent search of his home in the Patios in Boca Dunes revealed a variety of marijuana and other drugs.
No new case shows up in the Broward court records against Laznick, but he has a pending felony there from a 2018 arrest. A white female in a silver Infiniti SUV was seen leaving his home at the beginning of all this but police did not stop her.
He has minimal criminal history here in South Florida but we found a much more substantial history with years in prison in Arizona including 5 years for armed robbery.
Tristan Robert Smith from the Watergate Estates trailer park off Sandalfoot has had several cases in the courts, mostly traffic. This is impressive for someone who just turned 19. He can now add felony drug charges to his resume. This is connected to arrests we mentioned last week. Deegan Faron is mentioned in Smith’s documents. A search of Smith’s room in the trailer found THC oil and Alprazolam (aka Xanax). Smith also has a recent felony arrest in Broward for being a habitual driving while suspended offender.
Obaidah Jarrar was working at the Home Depot in West Boca. Company investigators claim he falsely rang up a transaction allowing an unidentified friend to walk out with $580 in merchandise for $57. The police report indicates Jarrar confessed. He faces a felony grand theft charge.
Barbara Simons of San de Vance in East Boca (near Boca Teeca) was charged with a bigger theft of nearly $50,000. This is a case where homeowners accuse Simons of fraud in her work as a contractor for them on their home in The Polo Club. The probable cause affidavit is over 20 pages long. In our experience cases like this are very difficult to prove.
PBSO arrested Andrew Bailey when they noticed the white Camaro he was driving had a license plate that was reported stolen. Bailey’s reported address is off SW 3rd in Sandalfoot Cove, not far from Walmart. The arresting deputy described a few different stories Bailey told to explain the situation, none of which checked out. PBSO is waiting for information from police in Mississippi to resolve some issues.
Samantha Freedman, a resident of the Impressions I subdivision of Boca Chase, was booked early Wednesday morning for DUI causing damage. The case does not show up yet in the court files. She had a battery case in 2009 that was dismissed.
It’s the same with Francisco Fermin, booked an hour and a half earlier. His reported address is in Kensington Walk near the Boca YMCA.
Frank Lapadura showed up in the blotter from a 2018 DUI case. He was sentenced to 165 days in jail (possibly because of his criminal history) and the booking process for starting his sentence triggered another blotter entry. In April of last year Lapadura crossed the center line on Ocean Blvd, hitting another car. He refused a breath test.
His history includes a few domestic battery cases, a couple DUIs in 2008, and a felony assault in 2007.
Zachary Healy of Arbor Club was arrested on an out-of-county warrant. We don’t see anything pending in Broward. He shows up as a defendant in Miami-Dade, but there is no case information in the system so it may be something there.
Artur Khaytov of the Town Villas near Doris Market was arrested for domestic battery on his live-in girlfriend. He has had several cases in the criminal courts in Palm Beach and Broward with at least one other battery, some theft cases, and at least one DUI.
Yaakov Vann of Villages Del Mar (near Winn Dixie) was arrested for resisting an officer. From the deputy’s report it doesn’t sound like a very good arrest. Vann was contacted based on loose suspicion of “loitering” and refused to answer questions or cooperate, which he doesn’t really have to do when there’s no articulable suspicion of a crime.
He has a lengthy list of minor criminal cases in Palm Beach County, and he’s sued quite a few people including the public defender.
Sandalfoot Cove resident Megane Dupoux of Village Green was arrested for punching her cousin, who lives with her. Ms. Dupoux does not approve of his girlfriend. An argument climaxed with the punch, and then a visit from a friendly PBSO deputy.
Phillip Schoff of the Watergate Estates trailer park was arrested for filing a false report. He called PBSO to report that 5 of his handguns were stolen. During questioning he admitted that he made up the story so he could file a claim with renters insurance. Deputies did find two handguns in the trailer and they were “submitted into evidence for safe keeping.” Good idea.
