23 Violations At A West Boca Burger Joint

Moon’s Tavern in Boca Greens had another perfect inspection. There’s more good news and some bad. A popular hamburger restaurant in West Boca was flagged for 23 violations, and a Thai-Sushi restaurant had 21. Paid subscribers can get the details below.

Lindburgers in Westwinds of Boca (near Home Depot)

The worst inspection in this week’s report goes to Lindburgers West Boca with 23 violations. Five were marked high priority, all involving hand washing and food temperature.

  • All potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) foods in walk-in cooler cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Walk in cooler at Beef (51-53°F – Cold Holding); Poultry (51-53°F – Cold Holding); sauerkraut (51-53°F – Cold Holding); burgers (51-53°F – Cold Holding); cheese (51-53°F – Cold Holding); tomatoes (51-53°F – Cold Holding); cabbage (51-53°F – Cold Holding), cook iced some items down moved rest to working unit, and called for service.
  • Cooked meat/poultry cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Cooked burgers 69°-71°, left on counter to cool. Cook put burgers in walk in cooler.
  • Employee began working with food, handling clean equipment or utensils, or touching unwrapped single-service items without first washing hands.told cook to wash hands **Corrective Action Taken**
  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food.
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food hot held at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Cooked onions at steam table at 114° cook reheated onions.

Not far behind was the new Me-Sen Thai & Sushi Bar on SW 18th in the plaza with Howard’s Market. Inspectors noted 21 violations, 3 high priority. A cook was mishandling raw shell eggs and failed to wash hands properly after cracking them.

Big numbers were also reported for Boca Lago Country Club (17 violations, 2 high priority), Picanha Brazil Steakhouse near the Sandalfoot Cumberland Farms (16, 2) and Wendy’s in Loggers’ Run Plaza (16, 3).

Good News

In addition to the perfect inspection at Moon’s Tavern, Bagel Wit A Schmear on Federal Highway was also perfect. Smoke BBQ on Federal Highway and The Drunken Toad on NW 16th, both in East Boca, had perfect licensing inspections.

Five restaurants were near-perfect with one violation each, mostly in East Boca:

  • EZ Dogs in Boca Greens (might be a food truck or food cart operating elsewhere)
  • Einstein Bagels on Yamato in East Boca
  • Trend Tea on Glades (might be in the Wyndam)
  • Al Reef Hookah & Grill on Mizner Blvd
  • Jerkit Cuisine in Coconut Creek

Davito’s in Boca Greens, along with Pummarola and Capital Grille in Town Center Mall, had 2 violations each. Also Brendy’s on SW 18th. And in Mizner Park, both Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Ouzo Bay had 2 violations.

Bazille in Nordstrom (Town Center) had 3 violations. Burgerim in Mission Bay, Bruce’s in Boca Greens, and Ciluffo’s on SW 18th each had 4. Saito’s in Somerset Shoppes and the Grille on Congress had 5 minor violations, along with Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt on Palmetto near Powerline.

Not So Great

The middle ground in this week’s report includes Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza on Powerline at Boca Grove with 15 violations, only one high priority. Nearby Brooklyn Water Bagel (next to Olive Garden) had 13 violations, 1 high priority.

Cherry Smash Ice Cream in Coral Springs and Mario’s Osteria near FAU had 10 violations each. Rotelli’s in West Boca Square (near Hobby Lobby) had 9 violations. Inspectors found 8 at Bluefin (Yamato and Congress) and Prezzo (Military Trail) and 7 at Sicilian Oven on St. Andrews.
