Crime Report for Late March

Our latest crime report includes over 20 incidents from burglary to trespass, with a couple of fairly big drug arrests in the mix.

As usual, these articles are for paid subscribers only. It’s only $5/month for regular crime reports and restaurant inspection reports. Just about everything else we do remains free.

Cori Cimber, Brandon Hodges, Mariza Faira-Malaczewski, and Samuel Lehrer

Cori Cimber (21) was arrested by Boca PD for burglary after she stole a bicycle from a neighbor’s garage. This took place in what some call the FAU ghetto just east of the campus.

Cimber got a DUI conviction last year, and had been arrested a few years ago for domestic battery.

Brandon Hodges (25) was arrested at Dixie Highway and NE 2nd for DUI. Officer Alvarez encountered Hodges vehicle stopped in the intersection at 2:30 in the morning. Hodges was asleep with the car in drive and his foot on the brake.

A package of “marijuana cream” was found in the car which, to Hodges’ luck in this instance, tested negative for marijuana. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license and for improper stopping.

We did not find any other criminal history for Hodges. His reported address is an apartment in East Boca on SW 4th Avenue near St. Joan of Arc and Temple Beth El.

Another DUI was for Mariza Faria Malaczewski (62) of Boca Landings in West Boca. She was arrested by Delray PD in East Delray after a 911 tip. She was stopped for her license plate light being out. She claimed she only had one glass of wine and refused a breath test. We see no criminal history.

Samuel Lehrer (47) of East Boca was arrested in Jupiter for DUI and driving while suspended on US-1. He was pulled over after he entered the highway making a left turn in front of the officer, nearly hitting the police car.

The officer claimed Lehrer had slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and smelled of “an unknown alcoholic beverage.” Lehrer was argumentative and somewhat uncooperative, refusing all tests.

Lehrer had a misdemeanor drug case in 2013 and a felony drug arrest in 2008.

Anthony Grassia, Joseph Kirk, Kelly Schroeder, Tyler Carey, and Victor Pompey

38-year-old Anthony Grassia of the Arbor Oaks apartments in Sandalfoot Cove was arrested in Lantana for felony cocaine possession along with marijuana and traffic charges.

The only other arrest we see for Grassia is a 2009 marijuana charge that was dropped. Pro tip: If you’ve got drugs in the car, don’t drive like an asshole.

Joseph Kirk (29) of the Watergate Estates trailer park in West Sandalfoot was arrested in the back parking lot of PF Changs for possession of the drug alprazolam (aka Xanax). Police and fire department were called on a report of a man “lying unconscious in his vehicle” – which is legal. Kirk told police that he’d dropped a friend off and fell asleep in his car – which is legal.

Then Kirk made his legal mistakes. First, he talked to the police instead of invoking his right to remain silent. He admitted he did not have any prescriptions. Second, he consented to a search of his vehicle, whereupon the alprazolam was found. And since he admitted he had no prescription, possession is illegal. Third, he continued talking after being given the Miranda warning, though what he said at that point (not mine, don’t know where it came from) wasn’t particularly bad.

Police also found a handgun “on the passenger seat” but Kirk was not charged with any offense for that. Kirk had a misdemeanor marijuana arrest in 2017.

Kelly Schroeder (48) of Century Village returns to our crime report, having previously appeared in February. She’s a regular in the courts as detailed in that article.

In the latest incident she was arrested at Macy’s for stealing pocketbooks. During the arrest police found drug paraphernalia that Schroeder said she uses for heroin.

An ongoing narcotics investigation led PBSO to an apartment on Arleigh Court, off Palmetto Park Road near the YMCA. The resident, Tyler Carey (31), was considered a “suspected narcotics dealer”. Carey’s wife answered the door, admitted there were “roaches” inside, and consented to a search.

Police found marijuana and cocaine in a bedroom drawer, along with 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Tyler’s 3 previous felonies make it illegal for him to possess ammunition, so he was charged with that as well.

Victor Pompey (33) of East Boca (born here actually) was arrested on several charges in late March. Police suspected him of being a narcotics dealer known as “Craig.” An “agent” purchased large amounts of heroin from Pompey in multiple transactions.

Pompey had prior drug arrests in 2007 and 2010.

Christine Bean, Cody Saggese, Nena Rodriguez, Patricia Carillo and Roselynn Segler

Christine Bean (46) of Federal Highway in East Boca was arrested at a CVS on Federal Highway in Delray Beach. Bean stole a $53 Braun thermometer.

We see several cases in the court system for Ms. Bean including misdemeanors and felonies. We’re still catching up and she should appear in our next report for a felony grand theft arrest that just happened.

Cody Saggese (27) of Dakota Court in Southwind Lakes (aka American Homes) was arrested in late March and faces multiple charges of felony grand theft. The Dick’s Sporting Goods in Mission Bay reported thefts in January of Yeti coolers shown on their video surveillance system. In late March the Bed Bath & Beyond reported an incident where a man stole a Kitchen Aid Professional Mixer but was followed by store security who reported the license plate to PBSO.

Deputies ran the plate and went to the house, where his father described him as an unemployed drug addict. Cody was arrested and later released on bond and supervision. He has multiple priors, mostly misdemeanors but also a previous felony arrest in Broward.

From the police report it appears Saggese may also go under the name Cody Gammage.

Nena Rodriguez (38) lives on Forest Hill Lane across Glades Road from Town Center Mall. She was arrested in Macy’s in late March after store security saw her placing smaller handbags into her large purse. A search revealed additional stolen wallets and handbags with a total value of over $1000.

Police noted in the report that Rodriguez is on probation for grand theft. Court records show multiple priors including a felony grand theft in Broward that resulted in probation. They also show new cases that will be in our next report.

Patricia Carillo (63) of the Symphony Bay development on Clint Moore was arrested in Macy’s after she was seen hiding baby clothing in a large Macy’s shopping bag. The total value was nearly $500 and she was charged with grand theft. We see no priors for her.

Roselynn Segler of East Boca returns again to our reports, this time for another felony petit theft charge for stealing itesm from a pet store on Palmetto Park Road east of I-95. In this instance she left her husband’s checkbook behind, making it somewhat easy for police to track her down.

Top: Daniel Rosenthal, Dinara Akhmetzianova and Heslei Fomin

Bottom: Ian Merle, Sandra Guardiola, and Barney Brown

Boca High’s Daniel Rosenthal (19) of Apple Tree Lane in East Boca was charged with domestic battery for pushing and tackling his father during a family argument about food. We suspect there are other issues. The young man was previously arrested in Delray for allegedly trespassing inside of a vehicle in what looks like a failed car burglary attempt

Dinara Akhmetzianova (49) of East Boca was arrested for domestic battery. She had been drinking all day and threw her cell phone at her husband during an argument, hitting him in the arm and causing no injuries. Their 14-year-old son told the police this was a normal thing in the house.

53-year-old Heslei Fomin was arrested for domestic battery. He and his wife have an autistic teenager and they had a disagreement about how Heslei was dealing with “an episode” where it appears the teen grabbed him causing an injury.

The wife then began recording the incident and Heslei slapped the phone out of her hand, which is the basis for the battery charge. Police were patient with Mr. Fomin as he was giving the teen a bath when they arrived and they allowed him to finish. They still arrested him for battery, but in reading the report you get the feeling they weren’t thrilled to have to do so. We see no priors for Mr. Fomin, a resident of Lago Del Mar near Boca Raton Synagogue.

Ian Merle (36) of the Fairfield at Boca community on Military Trail was arrested for domestic battery. Based on the police report he’s innocent but in a weird way.

He was on his way out to Taco Bell to buy dinner for the family. When his sister-in-law said she wanted four tacos he called her “a fat bitch”. Apparently he felt ordering four tacos was not an easy order. He said he was going to hit her and, according to her no less, she told him to come do it. He then put his hand on her throat but did not choke her or use force.

Battery under Section 784.03 is when a person “touches or strikes another person against the will of the other”. She told him to do it. Should be dismissed. We see no history for Mr. Merle.

But at the same time we think there ought to be some remedy for claiming that ordering four tacos is difficult to do.

Just another day in the Sandalfoot trailer park as Sandra Guardiola (59) slapped her male roommate and was charged with simple battery. Court records show four previous misdemeanors and a felony for her in the last couple years. One incident involved hot chicken broth and made the Palm Beach Post.

Barney Brown was arrested twice in late March for trespassing, once for sleeping in front of a store in Lake Worth and once near the Sandalfoot Publix. In the latter case he was also charged with having an open container of Miller Light. He has had many similar cases.
