Oops I Did It Again: Crime Report for June 15
Her name isn’t Britney, and as far as we know she hasn’t done it before, but this Spanish River teen found some trouble. After Barbie we’ve got the Ken Doll story. Then our usual stalkers, burglars, thiefs, druggies and drunk drivers. It’s another crime report for Boca.
Kevin “Ken Doll” Wynne (20) was arrested after a security guard saw him burglarizing a car in the Admiral’s Walk condo garage on the edge of Highland Beach. The guard confronted Wynne, who got back into his own car and drove home. Police met him there. He admitted he was on the scene that he was in the car. His story sounded pretty lame and the police didn’t buy it. Pro tip: Remain silent. Not one word.
Wynne was charged with vehicle burglary and also for petit larceny for stealing a $50 pair of sunglasses. He left them on the car but had apparently removed them from the car, which is enough.
Wynne had a DUI arrest in 2017 that was dropped to a reckless driving, a pretty common result for first offenders.
Mohamed Shihadeh (38) of the Paraiso neighborhood near Sandalfoot was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking and written threat to kill. His ex-wife complained to PBSO about receiving “hundreds of threatening text messages and phone calls.”
The messages included pictures of vaginas, along with language like “answer the fucking phone” and “its porn dumbass.” In one message about taking the kids to Disney he wrote: “you think I’m a let you go without me you’re fucking sick you have to kill me I’ll kill you.”
The probable cause affidavit notes there is a court order barring him from “violent contact” with his ex-wife including communication regarding the children, which is supposed to be done through a special app. As a result of that the original charge was changed to reflect a different part of the same statute that covers cases where there is a court order like this one.
Shihadeh is a graduate of Boca High and FAU. Court records show a drug-related arrest last year, previous cases for domestic violence or violating domestic violence injunctions, a DUI arrest in 2011, several traffic tickets, and maybe a previous divorce in 2008.
Next up we have the “most likely to appear as an extra in a zombie movie,” Kenneth Thornsbury (34) of East Boca. Thornsbury’s latest arrest is for shoplifting cans of canned air at Office Depot.
Thornsbury has a lengthy record with multiple violent felony arrests, misdemeanors dating back to 2001, and a couple Baker Act mental health proceedings.
Thornsbury’s history provides yet another example of our fucked up justice system. In 2017 he was arrested for robbing a man at a Mobil gas station on Dixie Highway. He demanded money from the victim, jumped on the victim and a fight ensued. Despite his lengthy history and being found guilty of robbery, he did not get any jail time. Not even probation.
Derek Van Kannel (38) of the Amberwood subdivision (near the YMCA) was arrested by Delray PD for stealing components from his former employer’s Jet Ski. Both work in the Jet Ski and boating rental business.
The victim learned that someone had taken nearly $3000 worth of components from one of his Jet Skis. He reviewed his security videos and recognized Van Kannel as the one taking the items (a wire harness and a computer module) from a 2010 Yamaha.
Delray PD was able to confirm through their License Plate Reader system that Van Kannel’s car was in the area at the time of the theft. He initially denied doing it but admitted it after he was confronted with the evidence.
The pair have a bit of a history. In December the victim in this case had reported Van Kannel (working for a competitor just down the beach) for knowingly renting Jet Skis to young people who did not have the proper safety ID cards. They had tried to rent at the victim’s shop first but were rejected, and went to the business run by Van Kannel.
Nadia Jammal (21) of Sandalfoot Cove was arrested on multiple counts of grand theft by FAU Police. The affidavit is very limited but our best guess is she may have been working at the FAU bookstore and processed false refunds to her own credit card.
We see no significant history for her other than a couple minor traffic and parking tickets.
Steven Garcia (24) of the Watergate Estates trailer park was arrested for felony possession of THC oil. Garcia was riding as a passenger in a car stopped for a broken tail light. His vaping device with “brown liquid” was in plain view and the officer suspected of being THC oil and it tested positive.
This looks like it could be a bad search. It’s not clear if that’s enough to constitute probable cause for the search. We don’t see any significant history for Mr. Garcia so the case might be dropped anyway.
26-year-old Christopher Rudder of Town Harbour apartments was charged with multiple felony counts involving sale or possession of hashish and use of a communications device. It appears an undercover PBSO agent arranged multiple transactions with Rudder via Snapchat to buy THC cartridges.
It’s good to know that our taxpayer dollars are being used to protect us from harmless substances. Oops, that was sarcasm.
Rudder has multiple prior drug arrests including felonies. It doesn’t appear he has done any significant jail time.
Anthony Angel (19) of Southwind Lakes was arrested in a similar Snapchat sting and charged with one count each of selling hashish and use of a communications device. We see no history for him.
Pro tip: It’s a bad idea to have visible problems with your car when you’re driving with a suspended licene and have drugs in the car. Demitri Kuznetsov (39) of Paradise Palms found this out when he was stopped on Federal Highway for having an expired license plate.
Apparently the suspension relates to some kind of immigration issue for the Muscovite. The officer found one oxycodone, two amphetamines, and two Xanax pills in the center console. Sounds like a day that could have been fun went bad early for this 7 am incident.
We see no other history for Mr. K.
Sandalfoot Cove’s Angel Bonilla (42) was arrested for DUI causing property damage after having a few drinks at O’Connor’s Pub and crashing his F350 into another vehicle on the way home a bit after midnight. We can’t say nothing good happens after midnight but not much.
Bonilla refused to participate in any field tests and refused a breath test at the Gun Club Road facility. We don’t see any priors for him other than a few minor traffic tickets in Broward.
Stephanie Pappas (41) was arrested for DUI after she was found in her car facing the wrong way on Glades Road near FAU around 11 pm. She refused field sobriety tests. To the credit of Boca PD, they took her to the hospital to get her checked out. On the way there she told the police “you’re wasting time on a fucking drunk chick.”
At the hospital she consented to a blood draw. The blood was not drawn until close to 3 am. Her blood alcohol level would be expected to drop about 0.06 over that four hour period, so the time may help her.
We see no history for her other than some minor traffic tickets.
