Crime Report: Burglaries and Batteries
We are trying something new with our crime reports. This is the first in a series to be written by our two new high school interns, and it covers the week of August 11 to August 17. We’re catching up.
This week mostly involves burglaries and batteries. “Rick” (not his or her real name) is already doing well and should improve with time and feedback.
Jacksonville-native Michael Pratt (age 18) was arrested in East Boca following a car burglary. Police searched the area for possible suspects and noticed two males walking at a quick pace and frequently looking around. One of them was carrying a satchel/bag. Upon reaching their destination, a Holiday Inn Hotel, the pair noticed police cars and started to run to the southwest building of the hotel. An officer attempted to stop them for questioning. However, they kept running and entered/exited a room they were staying at. Cops found the satchel on the ground near the room containing 2 iPhone chargers and a ski mask.
The pair were finally apprehended in the main lobby and admitted to burglarizing 2-3 vehicles at the nearby Embassy Suites. Unimpressively, Pratt only managed to steal $35 worth of items.
42-year-old Rossi Laboy was arrested at her East Boca Raton apartment for domestic battery following a drunken verbal altercation with her “daughter’s father”, or more colloquially, her baby daddy. Laboy struck him in the face as he was sitting on the couch, causing blood to splatter all over the living room floor. The object she hit him with is still unknown. She later added that she didn’t know why he was bleeding from the face.
Joseph Aflalo (62) was arrested after strangling his girlfriend following an argument over his band and bandmates. He became enraged and attacked her as she was sitting at her computer. She was grabbed by the throat and thrown onto the bed as he continued to attack her. Victim says she was choked to the point to where she thought she was going to go unconscious. Eventually he let go, and she left the residence. Later that evening she returned.
In the morning she mentioned the previous night’s incident and Aflalo resumed his attack. At that point she left again, but this time she reported the incidents to the police.
Don’t strike the wrong chord with this guy.
Kenneth Thornsbury (35) was arrested in East Boca midway through inhaling his 5th aerosol canister from Office Depot. Police responded after a call placed by his mother, and found him exiting his home, canister at hand. When asked to sit on the curb, he remained standing and took another inhale, at which point the canister was removed from his possession. Thornsbury later added he was just using it to get high.
This isn’t Thornsbury’s first run in with the law; he’s had at least 10 other misdemeanors and a couple felonies as well. The charge here is inhaling harmful chemicals. Boca PD took him to the hospital for medical clearance.
18-year-old David Medina and a friend were arrested after the failed burglary of what turned out to be an unmarked police SUV. You just can’t make this up. As his friend rummaged through the car, Medina returned another vehicle – his mother’s car – back to her house. Earlier the pair had driven to the gas station for some snacks. Medina then walked back to join his friend only for them to run back to the house together. Later they left home again, and began to walk down Glades Road at which point they were detained and arrested by cops.
Kelly Schroeder (48) was arrested after attempting to steal “Bikini Trim Razors” as well as a mechanical shaver from a CVS on Yamato in East Boca. When cops looked through her bag and found these items, they found various drugs/drug paraphernalia as well. Schroeder, a Century Village resident, has not yet been released.
She faces charges for retail theft, possession of suboxone (a drug often used to treat narcotics addiction but also a drug of abuse), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Schroeder has appeared in our crime reports in the past, most recently in April.
Clint Lobig (age 22) was arrested for battery after throwing a plastic board game in his mother’s face. Lobig became irate after she wouldn’t give him money.
