Great Restaurant Inspections!

Our latest inspection report is filled with good results for many restaurants in and near West Boca. This report covers the last two weeks of September. One restaurant is opening soon in the new plaza on the southeast corner of Lyons and Atlantic in West Delray.

Three restaurants in West Boca and West Delray had perfect inspections.

Leading off our inspection report are two new places in that new plaza on Lyons in West Delray. Ripe is one of them and Nekter Juice Bar is the other. Both had perfect licensing inspections. Also perfect was Manhattan Joe’s Pizzeria in Polo Club Shoppes.

There were several restaurants near-perfect 1-violation inspection including:

  • Moe’s Southwest Grill near Town Center Mall
  • Burger King on Glades near the Turnpike
  • Tutti Frutti in Shadowood
  • Burton’s Grill & Bar on Military Trail
  • Apeiro in Delray Marketplace

Also doing well with just 2 violations were:

  • Jet’s Pizza in Somerset Shoppes (Glades & Lyons)
  • Bluefin Express on Yamato
  • Cannoli Kitchen on Yamato at Lakeridge
  • Domino’s Pizza in Mission Bay
  • Willie’s Sushi Bar in Polo Club Shoppes
  • Lucille’s Bad to the Bone BBQ in Delray Marketplace

Duffy’s, Panera and Cream in Mission Bay also did well with 3 violations, as did Subway in Boca Greens, Toojay’s in Polo Club, and Terra Fiamma in Delray Marketplace.

Not So Good

The worst of this report goes to Matteo’s on Federal Highway with 18 violations, 5 of them high priority including a stop sale:

  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food. Employee blew into gloves with mouth, put gloves on then handled clean equipment without washing hands first. Employee washed hands. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Employee touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands – food was not being heated as a sole ingredient to 145 degrees F or immediately added to other ingredients to be cooked/heated to the minimum required temperature to allow bare hand contact. Establishment has no approved Alternative Operating Procedure. Cutting bread with bare hands. Gloves worn. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cooked/heated yesterday/on a previous day not cooled from 135 degrees Fahrenheit to 41 degrees Fahrenheit within a total of 6 hours. Food has been cooling overnight. See stop sale. Clam sauce 56F Cooling overnight at reachin cooler at cookline in plastic covered container. Food discarded.
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. Raw beef over bread at walk-in freezer. Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cooked/heated yesterday/on a previous day not cooled from 135 degrees Fahrenheit to 41 degrees Fahrenheit within a total of 6 hours. Several others also had ten or more violations. Rice & Spice Thai Sushi in Woodfield Plaza (aka Regency Court) had 17 violations. Boca Grill in Somerset Shoppes had 14. Sushi Masa on Glades near Town Center had 12.

  • Hunan City on Yamato at Lakeridge (8, 1)
  • Blaze Pizza in Shadowood (7, 0)
  • Saito’s Japanese on Glades at Lyons (7, 0)
  • Fresh Bites in Mission Bay (6, 1)
  • Mortons and Brio in Boca Center on Military Trail (5, 1 each)
  • Acai Concept in Mission Bay (5, 1)
