Coffee Closure: Restaurant Inspection Report
A Boca coffee shop was closed by inspectors over what looks like issues with dishware cleaning. Also a West Boca Japanese restaurant had 20 violations. And there’s also plenty of good news this week.
R1 Coffee on Military Trail just north of Clint Moore was temporarily closed with eight violations. Two were high priority:
- Dishmachine not sanitizing properly. Tested at 0 PPM. 1. There is no sanitizer connected to dishmachine nor is there dishmachine sanitizer available. dishmachine sanitizer was borrowed from neighbor restaurant and hooked up to machine. this sanitizer failed to travel through line to machine after testing on FOUR cycles. 2. There is NO 3 Compartment Sink to allow for manual ware-washing. 3. The dishmachine is located beneath front customer service area counter, there is no area to scrap and pre-rinse soiled dishware.
- Vacuum breaker missing at mop sink faucet or on fitting/splitter added to mop sink faucet.
It appears they were unable to correct the first problem while inspectors were there so there was no way to guarantee clean dishware could be provided to customers. It looks like they reopened two days later with that problem solved, but still needing work on the vacuum breaker.
Tempura House had the biggest number this week with 20 violations. On the bright side for them only one of the violations was marked high priority, though it did include an “administrative complaint.”
Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. On Cook Line Cold Table raw scallops 64F, Cook iced and moved. **Corrective Action Taken** **Admin Complaint**
Only two other places this week had double digit violations – Lemongrass at Mizner Park (11 violations, 3 high priority) and La Luna in Polo Club Shoppes (10, 1).
Good News
Four places had perfect inspections including Amitie Cafe on Yamato in East Boca and Chez Marie French Bistro in Polo Club Shoppes.
Four more were near perfect (one violation each) including Aloha Poke on St. Andrews.
First Watch on St. Andrews did well with only two violations. Einstein Bagels in Shadowood did pretty good with three violations.
Seasons 52 did okay with 5 violations but that included an administrative complaint related to food temperatures:
Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Risotto 46F, pasta 46F, cooked veggies 46-47F at cold holding drawers behind grill at cookline. All foods sent to freezer to quick chill. Butter 70F, cheese 66F in front line area . Sent to cooler to quick chill. Steaks 61-64F at cold holding drawers under grill at cookline. Food iced down. **Corrective Action Taken** **Repeat Violation** **Admin Complaint**
Madison’s had 9 violations.
