Deli Dilemma and a Triple Winner

Four deli-style restaurants top our list of restaurant inspections this week with the highest numbers of violations. And good news for one popular chain restaurant which had a trio of perfect inspections.

It wasn’t that bad, but four of the worst inspections this week were for deli-style restaurants in West Boca and West Delray:

  • Long Island Bagel in West Boca Square, near Target – 12 violations, 2 high priority
  • Bruces of Great Neck in Boca Greens (10 violations, 3 high)
  • Ruvens on Jog in Delray (9, 5)
  • Delray Grille on Jog in Delray (9, 7)

For Long Island Bagel it was food temperatures and no chlorine in the dish machine. Bruce’s had similar plus a hand washing issue.

Ruven’s had worse with a stop sale on sausage due to temperature abuse, more temperature issues with crepe batter, bare hands on a tomato, and an expired license.

Delray Grille had similar issues to the above plus a stop sale on split pea soup.

Zinger’s Deli in Shadowood had 7 violations, none of them high priority. We’re not sure if they’re still operating as Zinger’s, or if they’re now just a Philly Cheesesteak place. But apparently they’re still operating under that name with the state.

Apeiro in Delray did pretty well with 5 violations. Lucky Palace in West Boca Square did slightly better with 4 violations.

That leads to an odd question we have – does anyone go to Lucky Palace? It has been in West Boca Square for at least 8 years and only has 52 Yelp reviews, 11 TripAdvisor reviews, and 123 Google reviews. The reviews are hardly outstanding.

No one we know ever talks about going there.

On the good news side of things, McDonald’s had three restaurants with perfect inspections including Shadowood, Sandalfoot, and the one on Palmetto near Powerline.

The new Just Salad at Boca Center had a good licensing inspection with only one violation. Morton’s Steakhouse there had 3 violations, one high priority.

The Rise 31 fitness studio in Delray Marketplace had 2 minor violations for its coffee and smoothies. Dunkin Donuts on St. Andrews also had 2 minor violations.
