Glades Glitches & Live Flies: Inspection Report

Eight restaurants had 10 or more violations, and one new place with only 3 violations was closed due to live flies in the kitchen.

We’ve got reports from all over West Boca and nearby, including US-441, Sandalfoot, Jog Road and Military Trail.

The numbers were low but one bad violation can do you in. Bento Asian Kitchen on Military Trail had just 3 violations but that one high priority violation closed them for a day:

Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, or food storage area. 10-15 live flies at closed end of kitchen 3 observed landing in flip top cooler and cutting board 4 live flies at back prep table observed all landing on prep table and 1 landing on rubber spatula. 1 live fly resting on cutting board mat at triple sink 3 live flies in dust pans at rear door

They reopened the following day with a perfect inspection.

The biggest number this week was 16 violations for Casa Tequila on Glades Road near the Turnpike. Three of the violations were marked high priority.

  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. COOK LINE (Cold Table) – chicken Breasts 50F, beef steak 50F-52F, shrimp 47F **Repeat Violation** **Admin Complaint**
  • Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. – tub enchilada sauce dated. PREP 12/17. USE BY 12/24 **Repeat Violation** **Admin Complaint**
  • Vacuum breaker missing at mop sink faucet or on fitting/splitter added to mop sink faucet.

That stop sale is troubling. The sauce should have been used by December 24th. The inspection was January 13th, about 3 weeks later.

Hashi Sushi Thai in Shadowood had the next biggest number with 14 violations, though only one was high priority and no follow-up inspection is required.

The Sandalfoot area had several reports.

  • House of Bread and Coffee (13 violations, 3 high priority)
  • Sandalfoot Bagel (12, 6)
  • China Wok (11, 1)
  • Picanha Brazil Steakhouse (8, 2)
  • Chow Thai (7, 3)
  • China Spring (7, 1)
  • Restaurante Brasil (7, 4)
  • Kingdom Acai (4, 0)
  • La Casa de Peinado (3, 2)
  • Taco Bell (2, 0)
  • Turn 3 Sports Bar (1, 0)

There’s good news this week as well with three perfect inspections for places we know. On Military Trail, Chipotle and Habit Burger were both perfect – zero violations. And it’s in Coral Springs but Cherry Smash on Wiles is popular with many in West Boca.

Other notables this week:

  • Tijuana Flats in Mission Bay was near perfect with 1 minor violation
  • Benihana and Aloha Poke in Westwinds had 2 violations each
  • Wendy’s in Boca Lyons Plaza also had 2 violations
  • Osprey Point Golf Course had 9 violations, all minor
  • Bagelworks on Glades near the Turnpike had 9 violations, 2 high priority
