Changes at The Promenade

We’ve noticed some big changes happening at Promenade in Coconut Creek. First, as you can see above, they will be adding a theater:

Coming Fall 2014: Silverspot Cinema, a 47,000 square foot multiplex 12-screen theater with leather stadium seating, plus a restaurant.

Their map of the site shows the theater on the currently empty piece of land on the southwest corner of the property behind the south parking structure.

Also Promenade now has a green market on Sundays from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm:

Although Promenade is a few miles south of Boca, we go there and know quite a few others from West Boca who go there too.
Promenade is on the southwest corner of Lyons and Wiles:

Having it on Sunday here is a nice balance with the West Boca green market on Glades at Boca Rio, which is on Saturdays.

West Boca Walmart Hiring Center Open

We’ve been advised that has opened a temporary hiring center at 8903 Glades Road, #A-14 in the Somerset Shopping Center. It’s a roughly 2600 square foot space north of the Michael’s. The best entrances are probably the two on Lyons Road.

Walmart will hire around three hundred associates to work at the new West Boca Walmart slated to open late this summer in Boca Raton.
Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 to 5. Interested applicants may also apply online at Careers.Walmart.com.
Through Walmart’s Veterans Welcome Home Commitment, the company will offer a job to any qualified veteran who has been honorably discharged within the past 12 months.* Interested veterans may find out more at WalmartCareersWithaMission.com.
According to store manager David Bonutti, the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates. “We are excited to return to this area of Boca Raton, bring approximately 300 jobs to the community and expand our offerings to better serve our customers,” said Bonutti.
Walmart provides a benefits program to eligible full- and part-time associatesm including health-care coverage, matching 401(k) contributions, discounts, company stock purchase program and life insurance, along with performance incentives.
Most associates will start in August to prepare the store for its grand opening in late summer.

*Veterans must be within 12 months of active duty and meet Walmart’s standard hiring criteria.

Road Work on Glades Continues

We have seen a noticeable increase in traffic delays on Glades Road due to lane closures. FDOT’s latest description shows the work has intensified:

Restrictions: One lane will be closed, daily, westbound, 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with one lane closed, eastbound, 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday through summer 2014. One lane will be closed, nightly, westbound, 6:30 p.m. until 7 a.m., with one lane closed, eastbound, 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday through summer 2014.

In recent days we posted pictures on our Facebook page of lane closures at the Lyons Road intersection. At least one reader also warned about substantial delays, saying: “Avoid Glades and Lyons.”

The latest closures are a bigger problem because they’re closing the middle lane, which is more awkward for drivers. Earlier in the project they stuck to the far right lane or the far left.

FDOT’s description of the project is:

Glades Road (CR 808) from State Road 7 to Lyons Road
Construction on this 1.5-mile project began Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in Boca Raton. Work consists of repaving the roadway, signalization upgrades, mast arm installation, curb, sidewalk, and guardrail upgrades, and sign, landscape and irrigation improvements. The project costs an estimated $2.4 million. The work is being performed by Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc. and is expected to be completed fall 2014.

We note that while the description says “to Lyons Road”, we have seen work also on the east side of that intersection.

Accident at Lyons & Clint Moore

Update: A new accident reported shortly before 2 pm at Lyons and Glades, this time involving a pedestrian.

Pedestrian accidents are usually more serious and this one has four patients being transported to the hospital.

Yet another accident at Lyons and Clint Moore. We saw this at around 1:15 pm, and these are our photos.
This is as the police were arriving on the scene. The damaged vehicle is near the southwest corner of the intersection.
