7 East Boca Restaurants Slammed by Inspectors

Seven East Boca restaurants were hit with over 20 violations each in recent inspections. At the top of the list with 33 violations was Nino’s of Boca II on NE 5th Avenue. Nino’s II was also hit in February with 20 violations including live flies in the kitchen and a stop sale for food temperature abuse.
Despite the high number this time, Nino’s faced only four “high priority” violations, though one did include a stop sale:

Cooked meats or poultry hot held at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Meatballs 118°, corrective action was to heat to 165° in the microwave, reheated to 175° **Corrected On-Site** **Warning**
Food stored in ice used for drinks. See stop sale. **Corrected On-Site** **Warning**
Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit.Sausage 50°, meatball 50, cheese 49°, tomato 49° at the front counter. **Warning**
Raw animal foods not properly separated from one another based upon minimum required cooking temperature in reach-in freezer – all products not commercially packaged. Raw Chicken over **Warning**

Next on the list with 30 violations was Boca Diner on Federal Highway, and 8 of them were marked as high priority. The worst included typical temperature, food storage, and hand washing issues, along with live flying insects in an employee restroom and in the dining area. In August of 2013 Boca Diner was temporarily closed by inspectors due to live roaches and a total of 23 violations. A few doors down Our Place in the Boca Raton Plaza Hotel was hit with 29 violations. Back in March they had a stop sale over food temperature issues.
In Town Center Mall, Pinon Grill had 26 violations, while Grand Lux Cafe had 20 and had to discard a few food items for being kept too long or improper temperature handling.
Also with 20 violations was Giveness Caribbean, where inspectors reported finding rodent droppings and also issued a stop sale on at least one item due to temperature abuse. Red Zone Pizza on East Palmetto Park was temporarily closed with 20 violations including rodent droppings.
On the bright side, three food vendors had perfect routine inspections, including Strikes @ Boca (the bowling alley’s restaurant), and two places inside the Marriott at Boca Center.
Other notables with good inspections include Shake Shack on Glades Road with only 2 minor violations and nearby PF Chang’s with 5 violations (including 2 “high priority”); Chick Fil A in Town Center Mall with only 3 minor violations; and at 1200 Yamato the Palm Beach Bagel with 4 violations and the Jersey Mike’s with 5 minor ones.
