Winter Break Activities for Families
The School Break for Palm Beach County starts December 20th and ends January 5th. If you are not traveling, there is still plenty to do with the kids in the West Boca area:
Go see a show:
Mame is playing at The Wick Theatre until December 28th. Tickets are $72 online.
There is a Free Magic Show on December 20th at 11 a.m. at The Shops at Boca Center.
The Tail Waggers Dog Circus is playing at The Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park. The show is December 27th at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Go to the Park:
Sugar Sand Park is having a Holiday Funtacular! In addition to day camp, there are craft programs, music and painting. These programs required preregistration. Register online. Access to the playground is free.
Daggerwing Nature Center is open December 23 &24, 30 & 31 and January 2 &3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are animal feedings on a daily basis. There is also a paid program, Be An Animal Keeper for a Day, on December 23 & 30. Call 561-629-8760 for more information.
South County Regional Park and Loggers’ Run Park both have big playgrounds for ages 1-12 years.
Patch Reef Park is having a Winter Children’s Fair on December 30th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for kids ages 2-12. Free attractions include Strawberry the Clown, Sing along with Miss Cathy, Boca Raton Fire Truck and admission to the park. There will also be food, carnival rides and face painting available for purchase.
Go to a concert:
The Motown tribute band, N2Nation, will be playing at The Shops at Boca Center, on January 2nd from 7 to 9 p.m. The concert is free.
Go to the Movies:
There are a few PG and PG-13 movies coming out in time for the holiday season including Annie (PG), Into the Woods (PG) and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (PG), The Hobbit:The Battle of the Five Armies (PG-13) and Exodus: Gods and Kings (PG-13).
Or check out a classic movie for free at Mizner Park Amphitheater on December 20th at 6:30 p.m. The City of Boca Raton presents The Polar Express. Come in your pjs for free train rides and activities at 5 p.m. Food will be available for purchase.
The West Boca Library is showing Divergent (PG-13) on December 30th at 1 p.m.
Don’t forget the Library:
The Glades Branch and West Boca Branch of the Library will be having lots of free activities. Storytime for Children with Special Needs is December 20th at 11 a.m. at the Glades Library. Kids ages 8-12 can experience Adventures in Motion on December 23rd at 3 p.m. or Meetup and play Minecraft on December 29th at 11 a.m. There will be Minecraft hosting too so that even friends who don’t attend can play along. It’ll be a great experience for gamers to interact with other games and explore different worlds. On December 30th at 3 p.m. is a Heroes vs. Villains Party! For those five and up. Grades 6 and up can use 3D paint to create window cling designs on December 30th at 6 p.m. Finally, ages four and up and celebrate the New Year on December 31st at 11 a.m. Please preregister for all activities by calling 482-4554.
Kids ages 3-8 can stop by the West Boca Library for a casual craft on December 23rd at 2:30 p.m. Or see The Lego Movie (PG) on December 29th at 2 p.m.
For Sports Lovers:
The first annual Boca Raton Bowl game takes place December 23rd at FAU Stadium. Tickets are $20 to $50. The postseason college football game matches up the MAC and AAC. There will be a free PEP Rally in Mizner Park on December 22nd at 6 p.m.
Or attend a free outdoor public Yoga class on January 1st at Mizner Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and live music yoga begins at 11 a.m. Go to Yoga Journey for more information.
Go to a museum:
The Boca Raton Children’s Museum and the Boca Raton Museum of Art are both open for winter break. The Children’s Museum, located at 498 Crawford Blvd, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Children are adults are $5. The Museum of Art, located at 501 Plaza Real, is open everyday but Monday and holidays. Children 12 and under are free, adults are $12.
