22 Violations at Sandalfoot Colombian Restaurant

The good news starts with Tomasso’s on Palmetto Park Road just east of the Turnpike. One of our favorite places east, Tomasso’s had a perfect inspection with zero violations on February 5th.

Also perfect was the Chipotle on Glades just east of Town Center. Glyk Gelato on 441 in Parkland was near perfect with just one violation.

Brooklyn Boys in Shadowood did well with 3 violations. Also with 3 was Bangkok Thai in the Polo Club shops off Military Trail near Clint Moore. The Sandalfoot McDonald’s had only 4 violations.

La Perrada Del Gordo had the biggest number in this week’s report with 22 violations. Two of them where marked high priority:

  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food. Employee washed hands with cold water. After advising employees to wash hands properly, they then washed hands properly. **Corrected On-Site** **Repeat Violation**
  • Toxic substance/chemical improperly stored. Spray bottle of glass cleaner stored on prep table near clean utensils. Employee removed and stored properly. **Corrected On-Site**

Saiko-I Sushi on SW 18th, in the same plaza with Outback Steakhouse, had 17 violations. It was arguably worse because 4 of them high priority:

  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food. In sushi area. Employee washing dishes handled dirty dishes then handled clean dishes. Server touched face then handled clean dishes without washing hands. After advising employees to wash hands, they then all washed hands properly **Corrected On-Site** **Repeat Violation**
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cooked/heated yesterday/on a previous day not cooled from 135 degrees Fahrenheit to 41 degrees Fahrenheit within a total of 6 hours. Food has been cooling overnight. 3 lbs. of cooked chicken as per employee cooling overnight in WIC (80°F – Cooling); 10 lbs. of cooked rice as per employee cooling overnight in WIC (50°F – Cooling) See stop sale.
  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food in walk-in cooler. Raw shell eggs stored over oranges in WIC. Raw shell eggs stored over broccoli in WIC. Raw shell eggs stored over broccoli in RIC. Raw beef stored over raw calamari in RIC. Employee removed all and stored all properly. **Corrected On-Site** **Repeat Violation**
  • Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. 3 lbs. of cooked chicken as per employee cooling overnight in WIC (80°F – Cooling); 10 lbs. of cooked rice as per employee cooling overnight in WIC (50°F – Cooling) See Stop Sale

L’Chloe Cafe, just down the road in the Boca Pointe plaza, had 15 violations, 2 high priority.

A cluster of several restaurants had between 10 and 13 violations. Most notable was Burt & Max from Delray Marketplace with 11 violations, 6 of them high priority. Hand washing and touching food with bare hands were mentioned, and a number of foods had improper temperatures, a repeat violation.

  • Employee failed to wash hands before changing gloves and/or putting on gloves to work with food…. employee putting gloves on one hand without washing hand between raw to ready to eat food . Discussed with employee. Employee washed hands and putting gloves on both hands at time of inspection. **Corrected On-Site**
  • Employee touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands – food was not being heated as a sole ingredient to 145 degrees F or immediately added to other ingredients to be cooked/heated to the minimum required temperature to allow bare hand contact. Establishment has no approved Alternative Operating Procedure….cook grabbed cut lettuce to make a sandwich with bare hands . Discussed with cook , he discarded cut lettuce lettuce at time of inspection . **Corrected On-Site**
  • Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit…..feta cheese 61°, cheese 60°, cut tomatoes 55° in flip top reach in cooler at salad station being held about two hours…chicken wings 49° in reach in cooler at pizza station ( other food 40°-41° in same cooler) . Chef stated chicken wings was out for little while that’s made temperature high . Employee moved chicken wings to reach in freezer at time of inspection ……cooked sweet potatoes 60°, cauliflower 57°, eggplant 71°, corn 66° in speed rack by the stove at kitchen being held an hour . Also in the cluster were China Spring on 441 near the Sandalfoot Cumberland Farms, Dunkin Donuts in the Boca Pointe plaza on SW 18th, Chuck E Cheese near Target, Restaurante Brazil in Sandalfoot Square, and a couple yogurt places – Yogurt Rendevous on Beracasa, and Yogurt Emporium on SW 18th.

Other notables in this report include Boca Indian Grill in Mission Bay with 8 violations, 2 high priority; House of Bread & Coffee near the Sandalfoot Cumby (7, 2); Bru’s Room on Hillsboro (7, 2); Shula Burger in Delray Marketplace (7, 0); Shinju Buffet on Glades (5, 2), and It’s All Greek on Clint Moore (5, 0).
