Facebook Does Something New: L.Facebook.com and LM.Facebook.com

l.facebook.com
We just noticed a new referral source in our Analytics data. In the past we have seen two referral sources from Facebook – plain “facebook.com” and mobile “m.facebook.com.” Just in the past few days we’ve noticed two new ones – “l.facebook.com” and “lm.facebook.com” – and we’re not completely sure what they are yet.
From what we can see so far, they first appeared on April 5th and the numbers were small on both the 5th and 6th. They’ve grown significantly in the last few days.
l.facebook-appears
The vast majority of visits from l.facebook.com are desktop users, with some tablets and nearly zero mobile. This is in stark contrast to our overall site traffic, which is roughly 60% mobile. Not surprisingly, the lm.facebook.com users are almost entirely mobile, with a few tablets.
l.facebook-devices
lm.facebook-devices
We occasionally do sponsored posts so we considered the possibility that the new referrer was related to such ads. Since many of the landing pages were not related to sponsored posts, we reject that hypothesis.
The users are evenly split between new and returning visitors, which is roughly consistent with overall site usage, so it’s not anything to do with that.
l.facebook-type
Gender, age and other demographics also seem consistent with general site traffic. In short, we don’t see any patterns that show how l.facebook.com and lm.facebook.com are different from regular facebook.com and m.facebook.com. At least not yet. We searched both Google and Bing to see if we could find any explanations and we found nothing.
One possibility may have to do with “shared logins” or social logins where the user may be finding us on a third-party site while logged in to that site through Facebook. When we tried to go to l.facebook.com on our browsers we simply got switched over the regular facebook.com. But interestingly when we tried going to lm.facebook.com on a browser we saw this:

We’ll keep looking at it and will update if we figure something out. Please post comments if you think of anything.

Coming Soon: Kids' Gym in Boca Greens

spectrum-interior-pano
West Boca parents will have a new place to take their kids later this month. We Rock The Spectrum Kid’s Gym is for all kids, but it’s motivated with autistic children and their parents in mind.
The motto: Finally a Place Where You Never Have to Say I’m Sorry is not about what the kids do. It’s about the uncomfortable feeling their parents have when they feel the need to apologize for their child in a place full of people who don’t appreciate the challenges they face.

The grand opening will showcase all of the unique things there are about the gym and the kids get free Bulk Drawstring Bags full with fun little gifts.

fields-spectrumThe Field family (Gail, Jayson (4) and John) discovered all of this when Jayson was diagnosed with a mild form of autism. Gail says they’re “turning a negative into a positive” by opening this gym.
While places like Monkey Joe’s in Loggers Run Plaza and Chuck E Cheese’s in West Boca Square are fun for “typical” kids, children with autism may experience sensory overload or other problems, or may act out in ways that others might not understand. We Rock The Spectrum will be run and staffed and patronized by people who get it because they live it.
Other kids are welcome, of course, and there will be programs for kids age 2 and under and their parents. Autism is generally not diagnosed until age 3 or later.

If just stopping in, it will be $12 for a day pass. The Fields have plans for a variety of programs, including after school for teens, tutoring, birthday parties, summer camp, and karate with the help of Tony Hall and East West Karate, located a few doors down. There will also be a small retail area, The Rock Shop, selling items from Melissa & Doug.
The Fields, residents of Boca Winds, will have their grand opening on April 19th from 10 am to 5 pm. Other neighbors in the plaza will be participating. Davito’s will cater the event, and Anthony’s Barbershop will be doing $15 haircuts with 20% of the proceeds going toward the non-profit component of We Rock The Spectrum. Home Depot may also be there and they’re talking about doing monthly how-to workshops out front.
We Rock The Spectrum has 11 locations. The West Boca franchise will be the first outside of California. They hope to do a “soft opening” a week or so before the big day.
box-slideWe visited this morning. A few hours ago they posted a new picture from inside, with a box slide that John put together.
We wish the Fields the best in their new venture and will update our readers when we learn more.
The photos above are the ones we took. The corporate HQ also provided us with a couple of photos showing us what it should look like when it’s ready to go:

A new Movement has started in West Boca

movementstrong
Movement, a new fitness studio, opened in Boca Raton in January 2014. The studio, located off of Powerline and Palmetto in Park City Plaza, was built off the principle of paying it forward through grassroots philanthropy projects and powered by people working out. The Movement studio in Boca is the first in Florida. Since opening their doors in January, the studio has supported projects like the Boca Raton Community Garden, the Tri-County Humane Society and the 3rd Sunday for Hunger Project.
Movement offers 1 hour circuit training classes that vary everyday. The menu for that day’s class is posted on the wall. Each class is led by a personal trainer and can be customized for every individual. Whether you are a beginner or a fitness buff, you can try out a class for just $1. The first dollar goes in the 7 foot tall robot located in the back of the studio.
movementrobotClasses are limited to twenty people and generally consist of weights, floor work and step. Although you can drop in, it is recommended that you call ahead at 394-5994 or schedule online. A month of unlimited group classes is $49. Cigna Dropping Tenet & West Boca Medical Center?

Story updated with response from Cigna. See bottom of story.

Note that both sides agree that patients will still be able to get emergency care at Tenet facilities at Cigna’s in-network rate.
cigna-tenet
Health insurance company Cigna is threatening to drop Tenet Healthcare hospitals from their provider network. West Boca Medical Center and Delray Medical Center are both Tenet hospitals.
By a letter dated March 26, 2014, Cigna informed customers of discussions between the two companies, and stating that Tenet hospitals will no longer be in the Cigna network at the end of May if no agreement is reached. Cigna uses language suggesting that Tenet ended their contract early, is seeking higher rates, and will be leaving the network. Tenet claims that Cigna is attempting to reduce previously agreed rates.
The two companies last announced an agreement in July of 2012 that became effective in May of 2013.
West Boca News reached out to both sides Tuesday. Cigna has not responded yet and we did not find anything on their website about the dispute. Tenet responded with the following statement:

We have been negotiating with Cigna for new contracts covering the care our hospitals provide to Cigna members. If an agreement is not in place by June 1, 2014, access to our hospitals could be affected for Cigna members.
In our previously signed contract, Cigna agreed to payment rates for the care our hospitals provide its members. However, Cigna then changed its course and proposed a reduction to our previously agreed upon rates. We need fair payments from insurance companies to recruit and retain top physicians, invest in technology, and maintain our facilities at the level you have come to expect. These factors allow us to provide quality care. We are disappointed that Cigna has taken this position in our negotiations.
While we continue our negotiations to preserve patient access, it is important to know that prior to June 1, nothing changes and Cigna members can still come to our hospitals for healthcare services. Regardless of what happens with our network status, Cigna members can always access emergency care through our hospitals’ emergency rooms.
Cigna members with questions about their coverage should visit www.protectmyaccessfl.com or call (866) 966-3680.

Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) has over 100,000 employees and over $11 Billion in revenue in 2013. They operate 189 outpatient centers and 77 hospitals including West Boca Medical Center and Delray Medical Center. WBMC is the closest hospital to most of our readers and is known for its pediatric emergency room. DMC is the trauma center for patients from West Boca, and recently treated the victims in the Jimmy the Greek stabbing. Wikipedia notes that Tenet has earned various awards including “214 CIGNA Quality Designations.”
Boca Raton Regional Hospital, an independent not-for profit, is not part of Tenet. BRRH is the next closest hospital after WBMC and is currently in Cigna’s network of commercial plans, but not for Cigna Medicare plans.
Cigna (NYSE: CI) has over 36,000 employees, approximately 75 million customers and over $32 Billion in revenue in 2013. Their main business is health insurance offered in all 50 states, other US territories, and a number of other countries. The company made news yesterday after announcing they had signed up 75,000 to 100,000 people in “Obamacare” plans in five states including Florida. At this time it’s unclear whether the Affordable Care Act plans will be included in BRRH’s network.
Update April 2, 12:30 pm:
Cigna responds:

Regarding your story about Cigna and Tenet, the assertion that Cigna is threatening to drop Tenet Healthcare hospitals from our network is not correct. In fact, it’s the other way around.
Cigna was notified by Tenet Corporation of its intent to leave the Cigna network as of May 31, 2014. We are in active negotiations to try to reach mutually acceptable terms on a new contract. While the specific terms of the contract and negotiations are confidential, I can say that we remain far apart on multiple issues of critical importance to our customers and their employers – issues that impact the future cost and affordability of care from these health care facilities and professionals.
We are willing to continue negotiations and would welcome Tenet facilities and physicians to remain part of our network. However, we have an obligation to protect the interests of our clients and customers and ensure that they have access to high-quality doctors and hospitals at a competitive cost, both now and in the future.
We hope to continue our relationship with Tenet and are willing to continue negotiations. However, if an agreement is not reached by May 31, 2014, then any claims for non-emergency services provided by Tenet facilities and affiliated employed physicians after that date will be processed according to an individual’s out of network benefits, if their plan includes coverage for out of network facilities and health care professionals.
In an emergency, customers can use any nearby facility and still be covered at the in-network level.
We are also actively working to minimize disruption and will offer “continuity of care” benefits to our customers who are in the middle of treatment. This will enable them to continue that treatment until arrangements can be made for a safe transfer of care to another hospital or doctor.

We will make every effort to accommodate people who are under the active care of a Tenet facility or affiliated physicians for one of these situations. We encourage any customer who has questions to call the customer service number on their Cigna ID card; our service team is available to help and answer questions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Facebook Acquires West Bacon News Startup

markzuckerberg
Facebook announced their latest move this morning, acquiring little-known startup West Bacon News for $7 Billion. Founder Mark Zuckerberg has been on a tear lately scooping up other tech gems including WhatsApp for $19B and Oculus VR for $2B.
Industry analysts were surprised but said it at least made more sense than the WhatsApp transaction. Time’s Harry McCracken feels West Bacon News was a fit because it has found something Zuck was looking for:

Facebook has had an ongoing problem with young users. Its audience is growing in the 25+ demographic but they’re losing teens like crazy. Insiders saw a startling amount of activity with the demographic on the West Bacon News page. For most of their lives these youth have been coddled by their parents, the schools, and tech companies like Apple and Facebook. WBN founder Warren Redpork seems to have uncorked the bottle by calling the kids out for their misbehavior and even taunting them.

The acquisition price consists of 10% cash and 90% Facebook stock. In related news, local Porsche dealerships in and near West Bacon are reporting a sudden lack of inventory.
