Subway Series: Father-Son Attack

robson-darocha
Father-son duo Robson Darocha Sr. and Jr. were arrested on the 15th for battery (both), assault (Jr.) and criminal mischief (Sr.). Per the Sun-Sentinel and CBS 12, the pair attacked a man at a Subway restaurant. From these sources it appears to have occurred at Lakeside Centre plaza on the southwest corner of Glades and Boca Rio.
The Sheriff’s blotter indicates the two live on Plainview Circle, which is off of Cain Road north of Yamato and south of Boca Chase.

We see two other arrests of an individual from that address, Yelitza Darocha who appears to be the daughter of Darocha Sr. and the sister of Darocha Jr. Both of her previous arrests, in 2013, were for battery. The Palm Beach Court Clerk’s records show 43 cases under the name Robson Darocha dating back to 2002, with some for the father and others for the son. There are also eight cases under the name of Yelitza Darocha. The Sheriff’s blotter shows she has had two battery incidents this year so far.
Despite these lengthy histories and the violent nature of this incident, both men were released on their own recognizance with no bail requirement. Speaking to CBS 12, Ms. Darocha demonstrated what appears to be an ingrained family attitude about violence:

“It was just an ass whooping,” Darocha said. “It was just a normal fight like a regular fight between two men and it wasn’t that big of a deal.”

Enjoying the Miami Courts

20131018-152610.jpg
I had the joy in the last couple weeks of visiting two courts in Miami-Dade County.
Above you can see the crowd trying to get into the Gerstein “Justice” Building. This is where a lot of the criminal cases end up.
FYI my day job is criminal defense. I wasn’t arrested for anything, at least not yet.
It’s a really big building. Looks a little like a toaster.

20131018-153010.jpg
Inside it was not quite hectic. The courtrooms were easy to find. Based on our brief visit to one of them, it seems like a lot of cases get dismissed because the police don’t show up. In our case last week, in Coral Gables, the prosecutor didn’t even show up.
Outside there’s plenty of beggars, but they’re pleasantly annoying. There are also quite a few vendors. Try the Arepa!

And if you’re looking for evidence that the drug war is a failure, just go next door to the Coral Gables courthouse. The Subway and convenience store features marijuana magazines like High Times. You might wonder who’s getting the munchies.

Stan Hinesley Accused of Serious Sex Offense

–Update: CBS 12 reports the alleged victim was 7 years old.–
hinesleyThe Sheriff’s blotter shows that Mr. Stanley Hinesley was arrested last night and is currently being held on a charge of – allegedly – molesting a victim under the age of 12. The court clerk’s record indicates that he was scheduled for an appearance this morning at the Criminal Justice Complex on Gun Club Road. The docket does not indicate what happened this morning and as yet we have not been able to get further details on the accusations made against Mr. Hinesley.
Please keep in mind that Mr. Hinesley is innocent at this stage of the process.
Mr. Hinesley appears to run a business making pickups for guitars and bass guitars, and from what we can tell he is successful and well liked in his field. He may also play bass, as suggested by this picture from his Facebook profile.

The address listed for him by the sheriff is just east of Route 441 and just off Kimberly Blvd (near Boca Greens).

More Sandalfoot Crime

george-parisThe pattern of criminal cases associated with the Sandalfoot area continues. Mr. George Paris, whose mugshot is shown at right, is accused of witness tampering in a homicide investigation. The Sun-Sentinel has some details though we’re not sure how reliable they are.
What we have from the Sheriff’s website is that Mr. Paris is accused of violating Florida Statute ยง 914.22, labeled in their system as “Obstructing Justice – Tampering in 3rd Degree Felony Proceeding”. If we’re reading that right (we’re not sure) that means he’s facing a 2nd degree felony charge. This is an example of the confusion – if it’s a homicide investigation, why would it only be a 3rd degree felony proceeding?
The address listed for Mr. Paris is on Flotilla Place near the intersection with Branch Street. The red arrow in the photo below indicates the property we think it is, but again we’re not sure as the address provided by the Sheriff and the maps we use may be unreliable. As of this date it appears Mr. Paris is still in the mail.

penningtonOf course, there’s more. Mr. Erick Pennington was arrested late Saturday night and is still being held. He’s accused of battery and marijuana possession, along with three probation violations.
It’s unclear from the blotter whether the battery charge is a misdemeanor or a felony, though we would guess it’s the lower level offense.
Mr. Pennington (probably no relation to Chad) is listed with an address in the southeast corner of the Sandalfoot area, just south of SW 18th Street not far from Boca Rio.

kelly-raperKelly Ann Raper is accused of two counts of trespassing. She was arrested this morning and released in the afternoon “on recognizance” (bail was not required). When we see such a short time in custody we refer to it as a catch and release. Ms. Raper’s listed address is also just off SW Sandalfoot and just west of 441.

Blotter: West Boca Man Arrested in Boynton, and more

sandersWest Boca News is trying something new, for us: A blotter, reporting arrests for the past week of West Boca residents. It should be noted that in our country, all of them are innocent at this stage of the legal process. West Boca News supports the presumption of innocence.
First on the list, and pictured, is Joseph Sanders. Mr. Sanders was arrested on October 3rd by Boynton Beach PD, accused of selling amphetamines. He was released the next day without having to post bail. Sanders reported address is on Boca River Circle, northeast of the Glades Road Library.
grossmanNext up is Craig Grossman, whose address is reported to be in the Stonebridge community west of 441 and north of Clint Moore.
Mr. Grossman was arrested on October 1st and released four hours later on a $3000 bond. With a bond that large, the chances are he is going to need the services of a team like that of Mr Nice Guy Bail Bonds, who are the Santa Ana Bail Bonds experts. The charge is Section 817.034 of the Florida statutes, “Fraud-Swindle” of an amount under $20,000, which we think is a 3rd degree felony (3rd being the lowest level of felonies).
We suspect, but can’t say for sure, that this is the same Craig Grossman who was sentenced to 32 months in federal prison for defrauding UPS and Federal Express back in 2002. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
callahanMark Callahan was arrested for allegedly selling cocaine and/or opiates on October 1st. It appears he is still being held in the Main Detention Center.
Mr. Callahan’s reported address is on Watergate Circle, a neighborhood of which runs between Tradewinds and SW Sandalfoot (west of 441). The street number of the address doesn’t seem to fit with our maps.
cruz-ramirezAccused of dealing in stolen property and “fraud – false statement”, Stephanie Cruz-Ramirez was arrested on October 2nd and released the next day to “SOR” which we believe is some kind of supervision. The sheriff’s blotter also indicates a bond, but it’s not clear whether that was required.
Cruz-Ramirez’ reported address is in Sandalfoot Cove (east of 441).
richardsonCassie Richardson was arrested on October 4th and released the same day on bond.
Ms. Richardson is charged with several counts of possessing controlled substances without a prescription, and one count of using or possessing drug equipment. Her reported address is on Stacey Lane, west of the Hammock Street Church between Winikoff and Palmetto.
dudaJoseph Duda was arrested on October 4th and remains in custody at this writing. He’s accused of two counts of battery, one of which indicates domestic violence by strangulation and is a 3rd degree felony.
Mr. Duda’s address is in Sandalfoot Cove, east of Lyons Road and between the Boca Dunes entrance and Hammock Pointe Elementary School.
rayoniMichael Rayoni was arrested last night on one count of battery. It appears no determination has been made yet on release or bond.
Rayoni’s reported address is just off SW Sandalfoot Blvd on 228th Lane.
kornstadtDavid Kornstadt was booked early this morning for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, without intent to kill, which is a 3rd degree felony. His reported address is on Sleepy Brook Way just south of Winikoff, across from the Boca Glades Baptist Church.
Mr. Kornstadt appears to run a business installing irrigation systems through his company, Sales Service South, Inc., though Sunbiz.org indicates the company was dissolved about a week ago.
It looks like no release determination has been made yet on his case.
We also have an update on the incident involving West Boca Teen Nicholas DeSalvo. WPTV reports that two other defendants have been charged, Christopher MacDonald and Rose Cohen. Neither showed up in the Sheriff’s blotter so we suspect they were issued appearance tickets but were not formally arrested and booked into the jail.
Here’s a test map of arrestee addresses for the past week:
