More Crime in Sandalfoot Cove

sandalfoot-mugshots
Deputies have been busy in the area just east of Sandalfoot Plaza, with three arrests yesterday and today so far.
Lawrence Fiorvante, just short of his 50th birthday, was arrested on cocaine, marijuana and drug equipment charges. His reported address is on SW 66th Street.
Also on SW 66th, Tamara Kaplan (55) was arrested for battery.
And on nearby SW 65th, Robert Ruggiero (55) was arrested for DUI (alcohol), drug equipment, and marijuana charges.
It’s a tough week to be middle-aged in Sandalfoot.
Of course all are innocent until proven guilty. We wish them all well.

Arrests: Early December

joseph-franklinA couple days ago Mr. Franklin was arrested for battery on a person age 65 or older. The story got some minor press in the Sun-Sentinel and other local media, something about dragging his older girlfriend around by the neck. His reported address is in the Century Village complex just east of Lyons near Kimberly.
We were unable to find out more information about Mr. Franklin. It does seem a little odd that a 54-year-old man would be living in a complex that is normally restricted to people over the age of 55, but perhaps it’s his girlfriend’s apartment. The Sun-Sentinel reports her to be 68 years old.
anna-briggsAnna Briggs was arrested early this morning for battery, and released just after noon. We were able to find out a little bit more. Ms. Briggs appears to be married to “Justen Briggs” (yes that is the spelling of his first name), she is from the Ukraine, and she likes Mitt Romney. It also appears that the same Justen Briggs shocked the corporate world a couple years ago, though the story doesn’t seem all that shocking. He may work for Majestic Jet in Pompano Beach.

anna-briMs. Briggs does pose well for pictures, as we found this one on social media. She is approximately 33 years old.
Their reported address is west of 441, just off SW 3rd Street and south of Veteran’s Park. It’s in the vicinity of Sandalfoot Cove.

miguel-cruz
Also this morning, Miguel Cruz was arrested on marijuana and weapons charges. His reported address is very close to the YMCA north of Palmetto in Central Boca. Mr. Cruz is reportedly almost 20 years old.

Recent Arrests:

Jamesley CharlesNo arrests reported so far on Thanksgiving Day, but early the morning before a Mr. Jamesley Charles was arrested on cocaine and marijuana charges. He has not yet been released from the jail and we don’t see any bail decision  yet.
From our research, Mr. Charles may be a 22-year-old graduate of Plantation High and a talented cross-country runner, with a history of a previous arrest for robbery with a weapon in Broward County. jamesley-broward

If we found the correct Facebook page for him, we don’t think his profile picture is going to help on the marijuana charges.
jamesley-pictureMr. Charles’ reported address is on Boca Entrada, just west of 441 near the southern border of the county. This appears to be the Emerald Bay Club Apartments, which is a step up from the Botany Bay.

hodgmanThe last one we noticed is for Michael Alan Hodgman, arrested on the night of the 21st and released the next afternoon on recognizance. Mr. Hodgman, 20, is accused of cocaine possession.
His address is just north of Judge Winikoff and east of Ponderosa in the Palmetto Pines community. We think this also might be him in a Facebook picture:

Of course, all are innocent until proven guilty. West Boca News wishes all of them and their families as happy a Thanksgiving as possible under the circumstances, and of course to our readers as well.

Family Steals From Mission Bay Toy Store

The Palm Beach Sheriff reports an unusual theft at the Toys R Us in Mission Bay Plaza:
toys
The parents apparently trained their kids to undo security devices from electronics so that the parents could get them out of the store. Here’s a short version of the video, showing the family as the enter the store. A much longer version is at the bottom of this post.

On October 28, 2013, at approximately 7:30 pm, deputies responded to Toys R Us located in the 20000 block of South State Road 7, Boca Raton. Upon arrival deputies were advised by store manager that a family of nine, one adult male, one adult female and seven minor children entered the electronics portion of the store where the tables are displayed. The minor children appeared in and out of the video as if they were climbing under the cabinets. It is believed by Toys R Us management, that the children were instructed by the parents to undo the security devices which are attached to the tablets. It is believed that children were successful in removing at least two of the devices. The video shows the two adults walked by the shelves picked up two tablets; one blue Tabeo E2 and one Polaroid 10.1 tablet concealed them and together all left the store.
The male suspect is black, approximately 40 years of age, black hair, brown eyes, and weighs approximately 230 lbs.
The female suspect is black, approximately 40 years of age, black hair, brown eyes, and weighs 180 lbs.
Suspect children, total of 7, ages range between 3 yrs. and 13 yrs. old.
Surveillance video shows the family entered the store at 7:01 pm and exited the store at 7:20 pm. Entered the electronics aisle at 7:02 pm, milled around until 7:18 pm when the adults returned to the aisles and removed both tablets. The family is then seen on video exiting the store at 7:20 pm.
If anyone can identify this family of suspects they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.

Serious Accident on Glades?

Update: We have identified the motorcyclist who was seriously injured in this accident. See details and pictures at the bottom of the story. He appears to have survived and is currently (November 15th) in a room at Delray Medical Center.

UPDATE (5 pm): We spoke with the Sheriff’s “Media Relations” office. They mostly confirmed the details we had, though they could not be definitive. The motorcycle was traveling westbound and the car came out of a side street. They said the accident occurred at 3:30 pm (time confirmed by a resident). The motorcyclist was taken to Delray Medical Center. No information on the rider’s condition was available.

As of 4:25 pm Glades Road was closed westbound at Judge Winikoff Road, in front of Island Lakes. Eastbound traffic was also slowed. This is reminiscent of last month’s accident at Glades and Ponderosa.
It looked like a very serious accident with a yellow motorcycle on the ground, a car with multiple airbags deployed, and the Sheriff’s vehicle homicide investigation unit on scene with several other marked vehicles and officers.
Additional photos below. We will update when we get more information.

We can only guess from what we saw but it appeared that the car was making a left turn coming out of Island Lakes onto Glades to go eastbound, and the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Glades.

Update: Motorcylist Identified
West Boca News has determined that the motorcyclist involved in the accident was Jayson Acevedo. His Facebook cover photo shows him on a motorcycle remarkably similar to the one we saw on the roadway today.

We also found some tweets from relatives and friends identifying him. His own normally active Twitter page has been quiet since a few hours before the accident occurred.

West Boca News extends our best wishes to Mr. Acevedo and his family.
