Friday Fundraiser: Battle of the Bartenders

M.E.A.T. Eatery and Taproom/Cendyn SPACES will host Battle of the Bartenders, a celebrity bartending event benefiting the Best Foot Forward Foundation, on Friday, August 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. as part of Boca Festival Days. Local celebrities will be paired with one of the restaurant’s talented bartenders to serve wine, beer and a specialty signature drink. All tips and a portion of ticket sales from the evening will be donated to the Best Foot Forward Foundation.

Festival Days is a series of fun-filled events held at difference locations during the month of August and is facilitated by the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.
“Boca Festival Days is all about bringing the community together in the spirit of fun and charity,” said Debbie Ellman, co-founder of Best Foot Forward Foundation. “Our volunteer bartenders are influential community leaders who are dedicated to Best Foot Forward’s mission of helping youth in foster care. We are pleased to have their support coupled with Cendyn’s generosity of being a terrific partner and host.”

Listen to a musical tribute to U2 by UV on June 19th at Mizner Park Amphitheater. Free music under the stars at 7:30 p.m. Leave your coolers, pets and food at home. Chairs and blankets are welcome.
Celebrate with your Dad on June 20th at the West Boca Library. Celebration of Fathers at 10:30 a.m. with stories and activities. Ages 3 and up. Or Craft-n-Snack at 2:30 p.m. for kids in grades 3-6. Painting.
Bring your child to Science Stories on June 20th at the Science Explorium. Children ages 5+ can hear great stories with a science twist at 11:30 a.m. Free. The Explorium is located in Sugar Sand Park.
Go Skateboarding Day on June 21st at the Drop In Action Sports Complex. Fun activities for all.
Watch the FAU Concert Band on June 21st at Mizner Park Amphitheater. The music starts at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket or chairs but no coolers, pets or food.
Get Fit in the Park on June 21st at Delray Marketplace. Kids Fitness in the Park starts at 10 a.m. at the amphitheater. Free.
See Little Shop of Horrors on June 19, 20 or 21 at the West Boca Performing Arts Center. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Enjoy a family movie, Beethoven’s 2nd (G), on June 21st at Sugar Sand Park Community Center. Show starts at 11 a.m. and costs $1 for movie, popcorn and a drink.

Eyes to the Skies on June 12th at the Children’s Science Explorium in Sugar Sand Park. Kids 8 and up with a parent can learn about mythology and celestial objects – Jupiter, Saturn and more. The free program starts at 8 p.m.
Go to Summer Movie Knights on June 12th. Lynn University Volleyball team presents The Lego Movie (PG) Friday Night. Cruise on over to a car show at Packy’s Sports Bar & Grill on June 13th starting at 4 p.m.

Go Meet Suzy Hammer as All-American Sue on June 5th at the West Boca Library. Starting at 3 p.m., Sue shares songs, magic and stories of real American heroes. All ages. Preregister at 470-1600.
Listen to “A Little Latin Night Music” on June 5th at Mizner Park Amphitheater. Enjoy a free performance by The Symphonia Boca Raton playing selections by Manuel de Falla and Ernesto Leucona. Blankets and chairs are welcome.
Get Fit at Fitness in the Park on June 6th and 7th at Delray Marketplace. Crossfit instructors are leading these Free classes at the amphitheater.
Take your family to see Gordon Gumshoe: Fairy Tale Detective on June 7th at Willow Theatre. This is part of the Summer Children’s Series. Showtimes are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets for $7 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.
Make some art on June 6th and 7th at the Boca Museum of Art. Art-E-Ology is Saturdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for grades 3-5. Artful Adventure on Sundays from 2 to 3 p.m. is free for families with museum admission. Families participate in an art workshop.

Every Hero Has a Story

The Palm Beach County Library system is kicking off their Summer Reading program, Every Hero Has a Story, on June 5th at 3 p.m. at the West Boca Library. All ages are invited to join the program. Soar with superheroes and have a blast at your library this summer! There will be lots of free programs for kids this summer at the West Boca and Glades Road branches.
How to participate in the Summer Reading program:
Sign up at any location and receive a bookmark and a reading log to track your progress.

Little learners, ages 0-5, will receive a rubber superhero duck after completing an activity log.
Children, ages 5-11, will also receive a pencil and a copy of the newspaper, The Scoop, featuring jokes, activities and word games and more for signing up. Complete 10 hours of reading and receive a light-up yo-yo.
Teens, ages 12-17, upon completion of 16 hours of reading will receive a sports pack.
Adults, ages 18 and up, read or listen to five or more books, ebooks or audiobooks. Bring your completed reading log to your local branch and receive a spooner mug.

Everyone who completes the Summer Reading program will also receive a free coupon to a Roger Dean Stadium Baseball Game and be entered in a drawing to win a kindle fire HD6.
