Every Hero Has a Story

summerreadingprogramThe Palm Beach County Library system is kicking off their Summer Reading program, Every Hero Has a Story, on June 5th at 3 p.m. at the West Boca Library. All ages are invited to join the program. Soar with superheroes and have a blast at your library this summer! There will be lots of free programs for kids this summer at the West Boca and Glades Road branches.
How to participate in the Summer Reading program:
Sign up at any location and receive a bookmark and a reading log to track your progress.

  • Little learners, ages 0-5, will receive a rubber superhero duck after completing an activity log.
  • Children, ages 5-11, will also receive a pencil and a copy of the newspaper, The Scoop, featuring jokes, activities and word games and more for signing up. Complete 10 hours of reading and receive a light-up yo-yo.
  • Teens, ages 12-17, upon completion of 16 hours of reading will receive a sports pack.
  • Adults, ages 18 and up, read or listen to five or more books, ebooks or audiobooks. Bring your completed reading log to your local branch and receive a spooner mug.
  • All ages are welcome to participate online at www.pbclibrary.org

Everyone who completes the Summer Reading program will also receive a free coupon to a Roger Dean Stadium Baseball Game and be entered in a drawing to win a kindle fire HD6.

March of the Living

marchofthelivingThe Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is holding an informational meeting about the 2016 International March of the Living Adult Bus. The meeting will take place on June 8th at 7 p.m. at the Federation campus, Levine Boardroom, 9901 Donna Klein Blvd.
Meet Dr. Leon Weissberg, acclaimed Jewish educator and March of the Living Adult Bus leader and Jack Rosenbaum, the Regional Director of the March of the Living. Find out about the 2016 “5-star” adult bus to Poland and Israel and the annual international march from Aushwitz to Birkenau.

moviesatmiznerCatch a free movie at Mizner Park Amphitheater on May 30th at 8 p.m. This Saturday the movie featured is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (PG-13). Audience members may bring blankets and chairs but no pets, food and beverages or umbrellas.
musicinthemuseumEnjoy some Music in the Museum on May 31st at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Langley Performing Arts Academy in collaboration with the Boca Academy of Music presetns their 3rd Annual Spring Concert from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Free with museum admission.

Memorial Day Weekend

Snake_Sensational Snakes, A Naturalist Program, will be presented at the Daggerwing Nature Center on May 23rd at 1 p.m. Learn about Florida’s native snakes and how to tell the difference between harmless and venomous snakes. BMX-JAM-AD-NEW-1024x791The 2nd Annual Al Grubow Memorial Mayhem BMX Jam will take place on May 23rd at the Drop In Action Sports Complex. Practice and Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the concert starts at noon. $20 entry fee. The Complex is located in Loggers’ Run Park.
memorialdayconcertThe City of Boca Raton will host 2 free Memorial Day Events on May 25th. At 9 a.m. “All Gave Some…Some Gave All” will be presented at the Boca Raton Cemetery featuring Veterans Groups and music from the Boca Raton Community High School Band. At 7 p.m. “An American Tribute” concert at the Mizner Park Amphitheater. Blankets and chairs are welcome.

West Boca Weekend

Make a craft on May 14th at the West Boca Library. Kids ages 3-8 can enjoy a story and make a simple craft at 3:30 p.m.

flagofisraelCelebrate Israel Fest 2015 on May 17th at the Mizner Park Amphitheater. The festivities take place from 3 to 7 p.m. and include a performance by Jewish music greats Josh Nelson and Neshama Carlebach, as well as Pardes Rock. There will be a petting zoo, games, sports and kosher fare for purchase. Attendees can also enjoy the Boca Museum of Art free of charge. Presented by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.
