Mobile Blood Donations for Mid-February

Here are the upcoming opportunities for blood donations in West Boca. Don’t forget there are regular hours at the center in Somerset Shoppes. And the bloodmobile probably won’t be a big red bus.

Monday the 10th they’ll be at the Publix across from Sandalfoot Square from 2pm to 7pm.
Sunday the 16th they’ll be at Mission Bay Self Storage (just north of Mission Bay Plaza), from 7:30 am to noon.
Monday the 17th they’ll be at Office Max and LA Fitness in Mission Bay Plaza, from noon to 10 pm.
Wednesday the 19th they’ll be at Weinbaum Yeshiva High School, just east of the Turnpike and south of Palmetto (7902 Montoya Circle).

Free CPR Training: February 8th

free-cprFree “hands only” CPR training is being offered on February 8th at several fire stations throughout Palm Beach County. It runs from 9 am to 2 pm. Full CPR training takes longer, but we believe these are being offered in 30-minute sessions. Participants should wear comfortable clothes. It is important that people find a local facility that offers this service, regardless of where you’re from. Ottawa Coast2Coast may be of help if you live locally to the area. There are also some training sessions that offer AED training, with many teaching participants how to set up, how to use, and even how to change the battery of an AED similar to this m5070a replacement battery if needed. If you are looking for this extra training a search online for AED & CPR courses in your local area should help.
None of the stations are in what we consider to be West Boca, but one is near Town Center:

Boca Raton Fire Rescue Station #5
2333 W. Glades Rd., Boca Raton, 33431

We think the program is being sponsored primarily by Palm Beach County Emergency Management, but the school district’s Medical Magnet Program and Palm Beach State’s paramedic program are also involved. And of course PBC Fire Rescue is providing the space.
Update: It’s a “collaborative event involving 6 organizations coordinated by the Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety Division of Emergency Management. The contributing organizations include St. Mary’s Hospital, Palm Beach County School District, Palm Beach State College, Palm Beach County EMS Advisory Council, Palm Beach County EMS Providers, and Palm Beach County Medical Directors.”
The full press release is here: Palm Beach CPR Day. Thanks to West Boca Community Council for the tip.

Late January Bloodmobiles

big-red-busOneBlood will have its bloodmobiles out a few times this week. We don’t think you’ll see the actual “Big Red Bus” (above), but it’s still important to donate.
On Thursday the bloodmobile will be at St. Andrews School, 3900 Jog Road, Thursday from 8 am to 3 pm. It will then be in Mission Bay Plaza, near Office Max and LA Fitness, from 5 pm to 10 pm.
On Friday they’ll be at West Boca Medical Center from 8 am to 6 pm.
Next Tuesday they’ll be at the DoT building near the Turnpike entrance from 8 am until 7:30 pm.
Find our more and make appointments on the OneBlood website. There plenty of other places you can donate near West Boca, and you can also make an appointment for their fixed location in Somerset Shoppes.

Upcoming Blood Donor Events

big-red-busOneBlood makes a big effort to get blood donations from the community. There is a fixed location in Somerset Shoppes where you can donate most days. In addition there are mobile units that collect blood in various locations.
We noticed the OneBlood at Mission Bay Plaza today, in front of Office Max (near TGI Friday’s). They’ll be there until 10 pm.
blood-donationTomorrow (Friday) they’ll be across 441 in Shadowood Plaza by the Old Navy store, from 11:30 am until 4:30 pm. After that they’ll be back in Mission Bay Plaza near Hurricane Grill (which we think is roughly the same location as today) from 5-10 pm.
Sunday the 29th they will be at Sports Authority from noon until 5 pm. That’s the southwest corner of Glades and 441.
Tuesday the 31st the mobile unit will be at the Publix on the corner of Sandalfood and 441, across from Sandalfoot Plaza. That’s from 10 am to 3 pm.
It’s probably best to make an appointment through the OneBlood website.
For the fixed location at Somerset Shoppes, they’re closed Tuesdays and Sundays, and otherwise their hours vary. See the list below. Click the following link to make an appointment there: Boca Blood Donor Appointment.
