Dump Truck Rollover Blocks 441: Photos and Video

rollover-front
US-441 was blocked this morning for a few hours because of an accident. We’re told that the dump truck was making a left turn from Glades Road onto 441 southbound. It’s unclear why but the truck rolled over onto its side. It was carrying a heavy load of stone and it’s possible the weight shifted unexpectedly.

Fortunately no one was seriously injured. Several deputies from PBSO kept the area safe while workers cleaned up the mess. FDOT staff and contractors working on clearing out the stone and removing the fuel from the truck – it was reported that there was a partial leak.

Traffic was severely affected. We had reports from people who were unable to get out of Mission Bay Plaza. The section of 441 coming southbound north of Glades was backed up, to Kimberly and possibly to Yamato Road. They were unable to continue southbound on 441. Some turned right and cut through the Sports Authority parking lot. Others went left and we’re not sure what they did from there.

Other traffic wasn’t quite as bad. Northbound 441 seemed unaffected. Westbound traffic on Glades was slowed a little. Eastbound traffic on Glades did have to wait an extra cycle or two at the 441 light.

We shot several videos at the scene:

This one seems to be the most popular of our videos:

A reader sent us this video of the truck being lifted back up.

Readers alerted us to an accident this morning involving a school bus and a car.

There is an accident on westbound Clint Moore Road west of Jog. It’s a school bus and another car and traffic is backed up. … Someone is sitting on the curb and I don’t know if they are children on the bus.

Several readers notified us of the situation and sent pictures, including the one above from what looks like one of the Med Center buildings looking down on the situation. It appears from our reader reports that a person was ejected from the vehicle and was killed.

Update: One of our regular contributors advises the person was alive at the time of the photo, and was taken to Delray’s trauma center. PBSO reported that the driver passed away in the afternoon. The driver has been identified as Robin Pace, 59, of Boca Raton

We’re told by readers that 441 northbound is closed going north from Palmetto. Google Maps shows substantial traffic backup, mostly northbound but also problems on the southbound side.

We received another shot from a reader of the car flipped over, though the lighting is bad due to the position of the sun. We edited it as best we could.

One final photo – a reader sent us this shot of what appears to be a body on the shoulder of the road amidst debris.

Wear your seatbelt. We received many reader comments about cars speeding or drivers texting. While these may be problems, you can’t get ejected from your car if you’re wearing your seatbelt. Vehicle ejections are extremely dangerous to people. Princess Diana died because she wasn’t belted. Buckle up!

Accident Scene on Palmetto Park: Photos and Video

A reader tipped us off to an accident earlier today on Palmetto Park Road at Lyons. This was on the westbound side and was blocking two lanes when we passed by a few minutes later.
We also have some video. First here’s how it looked approaching the scene coming from the east:

And this is how the vehicles looked up closer:

And here are a couple more pictures from the reader:
